TV in Kitchen-Living Room: 7 Rules for Placement
At what distance from the sofa, in which area, and at what height? We explain how to best place a TV in a kitchen-living room
A spacious kitchen-living room gives you freedom of imagination when it comes to placing furniture and household appliances. Many make elementary mistakes: they mount the TV opposite a window, in a working zone, or at a great height. Avoiding these issues is made easy with 7 simple rules.
Rule 1. Size Matters
Don't forget about the dimensions of the space. Owners of spacious kitchen-living rooms are lucky: they can choose a model with a large screen diagonal of 50 inches or more. There is a myth that you can watch such a TV without harm to your eyes at a distance of 2.5 meters, but that's no longer true, and new technologies allow you to watch TV from as close as 1 meter.

Glare from light fixtures, as well as direct sunlight, can interfere with image perception on the screen. Designers recommend providing dimmed ambient lighting. This could be a ceiling light with a dimmer set to minimum brightness, LED lights with soft light, or several spotlights. Local lighting on the screen or mirrors can also serve as ambient lighting during TV viewing.

If you want the TV to be located in the kitchen, choose the safest spot. Comfort takes a back seat here. The screen should be kept away from the stove, sink, and other external destructive factors. Be prepared for frequent cleaning of equipment from greasy spots and streaks.

The best option is to place the TV in a relaxation zone. So that it's equally well visible both in the living room where you'll comfortably sit on the sofa and at the dining table on the kitchen side. This is the safest and most convenient solution.

The ideal height for placing a TV for comfortable viewing is slightly above one meter from the floor. That way, the screen will be at eye level. Don't be afraid to mount the TV on the wall. Modern models won't spoil the interior design with dangling cables in the air. For example, Samsung's Frame TV can be mounted on the wall without gaps and visible cables (a transparent optical cable is included in the package).
Of course, everything depends on your imagination and individual features of the space. Designers offer many options for mounting a TV: in a niche, on a shelf, on a special stand, or even somewhat risky – on household appliances (in case of a kitchen – on the refrigerator).

Don't forget: you shouldn't install a TV directly opposite a window – it can cause unwanted glare. If there's no alternative, buy blinds or roll-down curtains that will scatter the light.

A neutral option is a TV with a standard black frame. But not always does such a TV match the interior concept. Today, there are many ways to 'mask' the TV. For example, Samsung's The Frame in off mode looks like a painting: on the 'canvas', works by well-known artists or your own photos regularly change. You can choose different frames and matting modes, perfectly matching the model to the interior's color palette.
