House of Peace in Kaunas by Svirskis Studio

Svirskis Studio designed the House of Peace in Kaunas. This is a beautiful modern residence created with balance between modernism and purity. This single-story house provides just over 2,000 square feet of contemporary living spaces with a private yard and beautiful front garden.

Inspired by the beauty and simplicity of Lithuanian natural and raw materials, this house radiates peace. It is a balanced combination of modernity and purity. The property located in the Kaunas area was built across the entire 1,200 sq m plot, creating a long house of 190 sq m with a private yard, wide entrance and beautiful front garden featuring natural large stones and pines. The space between the plot boundaries and the start of construction allows sunlight to illuminate the structure, with solar rays maintaining a cozy warm home.

As the house is only 4 meters in height, it maintains both privacy and respect for the environment since it does not block sunlight from neighboring homes. Its length takes up as much space as two adjacent houses, but its height allows it to act like a passive sunflower that does everything possible to benefit from the rare sunlight: morning sun rises in the front yard and sets in the back. Large openings are carefully positioned to maximize light usage. The main building materials were cement fiber blocks, as the foundation of the design, along with oak, steel, aluminum and glass.

Common areas such as the kitchen, main fireplace and living room are centered; while the master bedroom and two other bedrooms are located at the left end of the house, and on the other side – a garage provides space for two cars. The layout on this large single-story house creates a river, allowing residents to easily move between various scenes. The third room gives the house the proper addition to a family atmosphere. Divisions allow the family to meet and connect through various spaces of this concrete oasis.
