House Duurzaamheid by Archi3o
Archi3o designed an impressive house near the Dutch coast in the town of Cadzand. House Duurzaamheid offers just over 2,000 square feet of living space, which is more than enough for its purpose – to be a vacation home on the Dutch coast.
This project near the Dutch coast was built for a very special client who is an innovator in home automation and a well-known advocate of sustainable architecture. For the architects, he chose the architectural firm Archi3o. Lead architect Renze Pienninkborg, a pioneer in bio-based and healthy architecture, created the house as a synergy between nature and technology.
Precise Construction with Laminated Wood
The house, consisting of 3 wedge-shaped elements, was mainly pre-assembled in a factory in Germany. The 'building kit' that was assembled on-site was machined directly according to the 3D BIM project created by the architects. This allowed for construction with extreme precision and truly enabled intelligent modeling to create a 'smart' home. The main elements of the house, including all cavities and holes for installations, were fully integrated in just three days. This was important because the wooden frame of the house, walls, floors and roof remain visible throughout.
Sustainable Innovation
Creating an innovative, fully self-sufficient and sustainable vacation home was the client's goal from the beginning. The example of serving was just as important as what he wanted to create – a great getaway for his family. In addition to the smart laminated structure, the house is equipped with a ventilated concrete foundation, super-insulated gypsum fiber covering, geothermal and mass heating, a 19-kilowatt solar roof providing sufficient energy for the house, cars and some neighbors when the family is away, bio-based materials, natural ventilation and, of course, a fully integrated modern home automation system powered by its own 48-volt network, fed by charged solar batteries.
