Bodrum M.M House by SCAW — Sustainable Seaside Living in Demirbukyu Bay
SCAW – Sibel Cihan Architecture designed the Bodrum M.M house, a three-story residence located in the stunning Demirbukyu Bay, Bodrum, Turkey. It was created for a family from the United Kingdom and reflects a user-centered approach, sustainability, and an elegant seaside lifestyle.
Context and Design Approach
The design maximizes the natural topography of the coastal plot, aligning with principles of ecological sustainability. SCAW implemented:
natural ventilation systems
passive cooling strategies
openings optimized for natural lighting
This holistic approach ensures a harmonious blend of living space and environment, creating a calm yet dynamic living atmosphere.
Layout and Space
The house is designed to support privacy and communal living:
8 bedrooms, each equipped with a minibar, coffee machine, and TV for hotel-style hospitality.
A main living area oriented toward the sea view.
A cinema room, gym, and relaxation zone on the basement level.
2 staff rooms for 24-hour service.
The open and fluid layout replaces heavy partitions, allowing light and sea views throughout the house. The entrance axis offers a panoramic view of the Aegean Sea, naturally connecting interior and exterior spaces.
Social and Flexible Zones
Flexibility was a key element of the project:
The cinema room connects to the gym and relaxation zone via sliding doors, enabling simultaneous use of the space.
The basement lawn area, accessible from the relaxation zone, serves as a smoking room — a cozy communal space.
The dining area and relaxation zone maintain transparency, strengthening family bonds and the connection to the sea.
Materials, Sustainability and Atmosphere
SCAW prioritized eco-friendly systems and materials:
Passive climate control and natural cycles.
Effective circulation and optimization of natural light.
Materials adapted to the local climate.
The result is a home that’s more than just shelter — it's a platform for sustainable living, combining technology, spatial comfort, and emotional well-being.
Real Estate and Lifestyle
Beyond its architecture, the Bodrum M.M house embodies premium and timeless design. Its coastal location, modern infrastructure, and contemporary yet cozy style make it a high-value real estate asset with long-term appreciation potential.
