Small but balcony

You are browsing apartment listings… Which one catches your attention? Obviously, the one that mentions a balcony. Why? Because in urban apartments, it's the only place where we can enjoy fresh air and coolness that even the best air conditioner won't provide.

Those who love flowers on their balcony can realize their dream of a green corner, while apartments with limited space gain additional useful area.

However, balcony layouts are mostly imperfect and sizes in standard buildings are small. Still, a balcony is space for your creativity.

There are many design ideas for balconies, but their main purpose is your comfort and convenience.

It's time to abandon the trend of piling unnecessary items on the balcony that might come in handy one day. Give yourself the mindset that a balcony is useful space.

Some of these can become a small extension of your apartment. All it takes is hanging a chandelier. It's simple and creates a cozy home feel.

Of course, one windowsill won't be enough to create a garden on the balcony. Many plant containers are sold in flower shops. You can also make them yourself from readily available materials.

Your indoor plants, tired of winter and the cramped apartment space, will be more than happy to enjoy fresh air and sunshine.

Plant something fragrant and forget artificial air fresheners. Hyacinths, jasmine bushes, petunias, night phlox – and your balcony will turn into a wonderful garden.

Use the balcony space in warm weather to set up a dining area. It's much more pleasant to drink morning coffee, chat, or watch TV outdoors in fresh air.

What if you tried growing strawberries, tomatoes or something else edible on the balcony? Daily watering will take only 5–10 minutes, natural light and sunshine will help grow your mini garden.

Not enough space? The balcony is a great place to store tools that tend to end up in the wrong spots and bump into your feet unexpectedly.

If there's enough space, set up a home office. Measure the balcony area and order or buy a small computer desk.

Windowsills can serve as spots for speakers, disc boxes, modems. Curtains or blinds on the windows can help regulate lighting levels, and fresh air will give you new energy and creative inspiration.
