Installing Blinds on Plastic Windows: Installation Options

Before purchasing blinds, consider how it would be more convenient to position them on the window. Here are some installation options:

Installation in the Window Frame, the Window Is Recessed into the Wall

The width of the blinds should be equal to the width of the window opening minus 1.5-2 cm on both sides (needed for mounting hardware). The height of the blinds should be equal to the height of the window opening (blinds can also be shorter or longer depending on purpose and design solution). For free use of the window (opening, ventilating) when the blinds are raised, a gap should be left at the top of the window equal to the height of the raised blinds during installation.

Installation Directly Above the Window Frame, the Window Is Recessed into the Wall

Thus, with the help of blinds, you can cover most of the wall and the entire window area, effectively shading the room. The width of the blinds should be equal to the width of the window opening plus 5 cm on each side, and the height should be equal to the height of the window opening plus at least 10 cm.

IMPORTANT! Before final installation of the blinds in this manner, check whether you can open the window with the blinds raised.

Installation in the Window Sash

Blinds are installed on the window sash so that the entire structure can open simultaneously. The width of the blinds should not exceed the width of the glass in the window sash plus 1.5 cm on each side of the frame. The installation of the blinds must be done in such a way that nothing interferes with the rotation of the window handle.

Installation Above the Window Opening, the Window Is Mounted Flush with the Wall

In this case, the window handle protrudes into the room, so blinds are mounted on special brackets that separate the system from the wall. The width of the blinds should be equal to the window width plus 10 cm on both sides to ensure better room darkening, and the height of the blinds should be 10 cm more than the window height.

Among manufacturers who have been supplying quality products to the market for several years, one can highlight Casa Valentina (Italy), Holis Metal Ind Ltd (Israel), Coulissa (Italy), as well as products from Anwis (Poland).

Installing Blinds on Plastic Windows: Instructions

Decide on the mounting method — to the wall (using brackets at the window) or to the ceiling — and in both cases, they are mounted using dowels or screws (depending on the type of wall material in the room).

Before starting installation, check whether folded blinds interfere with opening the window.

On the wall, using a level, mark the mounting points and drill holes at these locations. For large-width blinds, intermediate mounting is required. In other cases, two mounting points are sufficient for reliable attachment.

Drill a hole in the wall and insert a suitable dowel for the wall material. Secure the mounting with screws.

All that remains is to insert the blinds into the mounting brackets.

Installing Window Grilles

When it comes to room security, installing window grilles is one of the rational and affordable options.

Installing Window Grilles Yourself:

Grilles on windows are mounted using rods or bars.

Place the finished grille against the window opening and mark the points for drilling holes for the rods. Four rods are sufficient to ensure structural integrity and reliability.

The depth of the holes depends on the distance between the wall and the grille frame.

The rods are hammered into the wall once the holes are ready.

The grille is welded to the rods.

Pay attention to the material used for manufacturing the window grille: the most reliable ones are made from bars or squares, slightly less secure are those made from strips.

A quality grille that is protected not only against break-ins but also against environmental influences cannot cost cheaply. Especially if it's a wrought iron grille with a pattern rather than a simple mesh. It is especially important not to skimp on installation — mounting window grilles, despite the simplicity of the process, is a job for professionals.
