Before and After: Budget Transformation of a Kitchen in a Khrushchyovka
Lacustrine interior with no unnecessary elements
This single-room apartment in Moscow became the subject of a fast capital repair under the guidance of designer Anna Kanyina. The main task was to organize housing for students: both for owners and for renting out. The apartment with a standard layout in a khrushchyovka, with an area of 31.5 sq.m and ceiling height of 2.5 meters, needed a complete overhaul. At the beginning of the project, the apartment was in a deplorable condition: old finishings, worn-out parquet, peeling windows. During the renovation, they decided to preserve the existing layout, focusing on functionality and aesthetics. We will tell you in detail about the kitchen in this khrushchyovka.
Photo before renovationThe kitchen in this apartment required special attention because it is one of the most functional spaces where every centimeter counts. The designer proposed a modular kitchen with cabinets of increased height, which allowed maximizing vertical space and creating more storage. Light-colored cabinet fronts visually expand the room and make it brighter, while the mosaic-like tile on the backsplash adds sophistication and freshness. Unusual blue handles on the cabinets became a bright accent, adding style and originality to the kitchen. Such a color combination helps highlight the furniture against neutral walls and creates an interesting visual effect.

The kitchen has all the necessary appliances that perfectly fit into the compact space. A dishwasher, range hood, two-burner gas stove, and built-in oven make the kitchen highly functional while maintaining a stylish appearance. A full-size refrigerator that originally cluttered the small kitchen was replaced with a built-in countertop model, freeing up additional space for the work zone.

Special attention was paid to textiles and decorative elements. Beige curtains in wall color with white lining give the kitchen a cozy and finished look. As an accent element, blue chairs were chosen – they add brightness and are a stylish trend. A black round table with marble effect harmoniously complements the overall interior and serves as an ideal place for meals.

Integrated spotlights on the kitchen provide even lighting in the work zone. A suspended light fixture made of glass and metal is installed in the center of the kitchen, which not only fulfills its primary function but also serves as an interesting decorative element.
As a result, the kitchen in this khrushchyovka was transformed beyond recognition. Skillful combination of functionality, minimalism, and stylish accents created a modern and cozy space perfectly suited for personal use or renting out.
