Marine photos on apartment walls are not just decoration. In each of them, consciously or subconsciously, there is a psychological component to how the image is perceived when applied to wallpaper: the sea evokes memories of pleasure and relaxation. Whether you notice it or not, such an image truly brings peace to your mind.
Photo 1 — Wallpaper doesn’t have to cover the entire wall. Using a high-quality photo in a smaller format, you can create a focal point in your interior, for example, by hanging a marine image above the headboard in a bedroom.
In the example below, you can see how wallpaper can be seamlessly integrated into any room’s design, combining the wall image with other elements of the style. The marine theme is supported here by large arched niches finished with plaster "to look like limestone," as well as the hallway floor, paved like a seaside promenade.
However, you don’t need to actually lay stone on your apartment floor—there are many coverings available that mimic the look of masonry, such as linoleum or self-leveling floors.
Photo 2 — Here’s a great example of how a wall image can be used not only for decoration but also to create visual illusions.
Wallpaper in interiors is used not just to decorate walls or ceilings, but also to highlight key design elements. In the example below, a single bright accent complements a calm bedroom interior in soft gray and pastel beige tones.
One psychological trick: the image on the wallpaper shows a sailboat sailing across the ocean in a sunset glow. Sunset, in any case, is associated with peace and reminds people it’s time to sleep. Especially since the sea is calm, symbolizing the serenity that should prevail in this room.
Thus, the bedroom design naturally "lulls" the residents into a peaceful state.
In the morning, when you need to quickly shake off sleep and get ready for a busy day, vibrant yet non-aggressive colors from the photo will help boost energy and vitality.
Photo 3 — A vivid image, yet not distracting to the mind. In this interior, warm red, orange, and yellow sunset tones gently blend into the warm ocean waters.
Because this image covers adjacent walls and closes the corner, the flat image can create a more three-dimensional effect.

Rich colors in the photo (in this example, blue and green) can stand out if the walls next to the full-size photo are kept snow-white.

Beyond decoration, white can dominate the interior as a color for furniture or accessories. Notice how well the furniture and decorative elements with slightly curved shapes look against the photo background.
Sharp, angular shapes, which we subconsciously perceive, would create a completely different mood in the room. Here, vases, chairs, chandeliers, tables, and even a wicker rug all feature rounded forms.
Another advantage of this example is that the photo chosen for wallpaper is not flat, but has depth and perspective—making it look far more appealing.
Photo 6 — Another successful example of using white in a room with marine wallpaper
Earlier, we discussed the "maritime" theme only as a wallpaper option. Below is a photo that completes the room’s interior, designed from top to bottom like a seaside apartment or even a private cottage.
Wallpaper with a marine landscape is applied to walls and even the ceiling. Together—though parts of the image are separated by decorative columns and ceiling cornices—they form a single, unified image.

By the way, the sea on wallpaper doesn’t always have to show beaches, palm trees, or waves. In some interiors, the maritime theme can be used in a more creative way—such as covering a wall with a close-up photo of sea pebbles.
