A socket behind the cabinet, a router by the front door, wires all over the apartment – if this sounds familiar, you definitely should read this post

Designer Natalie Shelkouskaya collected common mistakes in electrical wiring installation — let's see how to avoid them.

Natalie Shelkouskaya is an interior design expert and founder of the Shelnat design studio. You didn't plan socket placement properly

Those with little experience in renovation tend to place sockets according to the principle of “one by the door and one somewhere else.” As a result, cables run throughout the entire apartment: one socket accidentally ends up behind a cabinet, and another — behind a dresser.

Professionals install sockets only after agreeing on the layout plan. If you know where furniture will be placed and its dimensions, sockets will appear exactly where they should be.

An uncovered electrical panel in the hallway is the first sign that the renovation was rushed. Either the eye hasn’t noticed it’s a technical detail — like a siphon or wiring. You should think about where to hide it even at the beginning of the renovation.

You placed the router in the most visible spot

Most people hang their router by the front door in the hallway — installers don’t want to run cables elsewhere. But we don’t live for the convenience of installers, so ask them to run the cables where you need them.

An inconvenient placement that causes your gaze to “bump” into the device — the lesser of evils. Much worse is when an air conditioner is installed at the end of the renovation onto finished surfaces: drain pipes and cables are covered with a PVC profile that yellows after 3 years.

You decided to do the electrical work on the kitchen yourself

Only professionals should handle wiring in the kitchen: they plan socket placement considering all details. If you do it yourself, mistakes are unavoidable.
