Guide: 8 Kitchens with Trendy Facades
Trendy kitchen facades, distinguished by color, texture, or design, bright or light wood tones
Monochromatic and calm kitchen facades are no longer in trend. The upper and lower parts of the cabinet should differ, if not in color, then at least in texture. In addition, all shades of blue or natural wood tones are particularly popular.
- White top, dark bottom
Monochromatic kitchen facades are going into the past. At least they are retreating into the shadows for now, while kitchens with different colored upper and lower cabinets are in style. For his two-room apartment project in a panel house, Nikolai Barsukov chose a classic combination of light upper and dark lower facades. Thanks to this, the interior is not overloaded, and the upper part of the cabinet is almost unnoticeable.

- And vice versa…
However, there are no strict rules or boundaries for using colored facades, so nothing prevents flipping everything upside down. Designer Artem Babayanets preferred lighter and brighter cabinets to be installed at the bottom, while making an accent on the upper dark hanging shelves. He additionally highlighted the overhanging furniture with backlighting so that it visually seems to float in the air.

- And more vibrant options…
Another example of differently colored, but this time much more vibrant kitchen facades was presented by studio ANTEI. For their project, they ordered a cabinet from a carpentry workshop with glossy gray upper facades and yellow carved lower ones. This piece of furniture became the main accent in a calm kitchen designed in pastel tones.

- Different textures
However, upper and lower facades don’t have to differ in color. The main thing is to differ somehow, for example, in texture. For decorating a kitchen in a standard panel house, designer Oleg Mintz divided the cabinet into three levels. The bottom one is white matte, the middle one features prominently textured wooden facades, and the top one near the ceiling is eye-catching bright glossy yellow.

- And different designs…
Designer Victoria Smirnova preferred to abandon bright color solutions. Her entirely white kitchen is at the crossroads of classicism and modernity. Upper and lower cabinets differ barely perceptibly. But upon closer inspection, it becomes noticeable that the bottom facades have simple lamination, while the top ones are decorated with decorative elements. The classical carved decor was replaced by flat metal.

- Whitewashed wood
Another trendy trend, which definitely won’t be called a novelty – kitchen cabinets made of natural wood. The difference is that, unlike classic and most common variants, it must not have yellowish or brownish shades. The perfect example was demonstrated in the project by Irina Tatarnikova. Whitewashed wood, which she used, is currently at the peak of popularity.

- All shades of blue
Intense blue color is one of the main trends of 2018 in kitchen design. Designers Denis Krasikov and Anastasia Struchkova from studio Cartelle Design painted an accent wall in the kitchen-dining room in such a dark shade and matched the cabinet to the tone. To prevent it from blending with the rest of the space, they left the upper part of the wall white. The contrast makes the facade colors seem even deeper.

But not only dark blue rules the roost. All light shades, from blue to turquoise, also feel great on kitchen facades. To avoid the interior looking too vanilla, designers from studio CO:interior made the upper cabinets calmer – glass with light layout. The gentle shade of blue is also supported by Roman curtains on the window.

- A little sea on the kitchen
For decorating a suburban cottage, designers Pavel Zheleznov and Tatiana Borisova chose a cabinet in a vivid emerald green color. They didn’t even attempt to calm down the intense color or tone it down with wall shades. The upper and lower cabinet tiers are separated by a wooden apron in a deep wine shade.
