Why Interior from Magazine Cover Is Better Left on the Pages of the Magazine
An interior «as seen on the magazine cover» is sometimes not so easy to create. But is it even necessary?
An ideal interior is one where aesthetics blend with functionality. But even if you like the interior from the cover, how do you determine whether it's actually comfortable for daily life? Let's find out with art director of «Tочка Дизайна» studio, Ivan Mirolyubov.

EXPERT
Art Director at «Tочка дизайна». Believes that a room should be practical and built on harmony of form and color. He suggests leaving ornamental moldings, decorative cornices, pilasters and friezes to history.
1. Even a perfect picture does not suit everyone
For every person, a designer creates a comfortable living space, and their approach is individual. What may appeal to a client who likes the interior from the magazine cover might not suit most people in real life, because tastes and preferences are personal. Therefore, do not judge the interior from a photo as an ideal picture to copy into your home.
Examine the project in detail, «breaking it down» into parts you would like to incorporate into your own interior. Analyze this interior into individual components: materials, colors, textures, furniture, decor. Identify what exactly from these elements you liked the most.
2. Functionality Must Fit You SpecificallyThe main thing to strive for in original home decoration is functionality. Therefore, consider ergonomics. This is like the frame on which «everything else» is placed. Proper layout can be styled in almost any style, choose preferred color schemes, illuminate and decorate spaces in various ways. But if the layout was chosen poorly from the start, then no matter how beautiful and expensive the interior is, living in it will still be uncomfortable.

Thus, before copying an interior from glossy magazine pages, define your own needs and lifestyle. Consider the wishes of people close to you as well as their age. If you're working with a designer, make sure to honestly describe how you live. This will help avoid misunderstandings throughout the project and create an interior where it's pleasant and comfortable for you to live.
3. There Should Always Be Room for ExperimentationIf the interior from the photo still seems perfectly suited to you, it's better to use it only for inspiration. Even a template project will be adapted by the designer to fit the specific apartment.

Try to explain your desires to the designer so you can build a working relationship with him effectively. The key point is to remember that criteria for good design should be defined individually. Be honest with yourself and prepare for experimentation! Then, the interior will turn out truly individual, comfortable, and stylish, making you feel at home.
