Cozy Cottage in Australia with Garden Room
Designer and interior stylist Linda Gardner has been selling antique furniture and décor items together with her partner Amanda Henderson-Marks for many years (we've already told about Amanda's house).
At some point, Linda became interested in the hospitality business, primarily the aesthetic side of things. This wonderful cottage built in the 1850s in the town of Dalesford, located northwest of Melbourne, was the first boutique hotel that Linda bought and decorated. Her debut interior design was called White House.

A one-story cottage includes a spacious living room, kitchen and dining room, two bedrooms and a library. If you walk deeper into the hotel's property, you can find a small garden cottage. It is also white and decorated as a room with its own bathroom, continuing the interior of the cottage.

The original features of these two old buildings with sloping walls, worn floors and window shutters fit perfectly into the complex rustic style in which Linda likes to work. Although the designer has no attachment to brands or trendy furniture, each of her projects has a common skeleton on which all interior solutions are based.
This always includes at least several light-colored walls and dark floors, industrial lighting (in this hotel 'factory' lamps appear everywhere except in the bathroom), as well as coffee and side tables – there are always many of these in Linda's projects.

Furniture and accessories were mostly purchased at flea markets or Sunday fairs, very popular in Australia, but the designer is always on the lookout for new places with finds for her projects. For example, Linda got real 1930s club chairs from under the hammer of one of Melbourne's auctions, and now they decorate the library in her 'white house'.

Linda is often asked how to decorate your home effectively. She advises not mixing too many styles, filling your home with favorite items and using her signature trick – layering: combining several different textured materials, similar in tone or color. And learn to create your own personal style: intuitively, as you like, without following trends.
