Garden Pond: Everything You Need to Know
Water is often said to be life. Just look at any pond installed in a garden depression to understand this. It is an important meeting place for flora and fauna, a landscape element that is a mesmerizing spectacle and delights birds, insects, and other small animals. A true contribution to biodiversity, this water reservoir promotes the health of all nearby plants and enlivens the landscape.

Between the light shimmering on its surface, the soothing sound of flowing water and birds singing while coming to drink, this living scene constantly refreshes itself. An enchanting décor that can take many forms and adapt to any style (from most traditional to the most modern), it also represents a tangible source of freshness during hot periods. Conversely, a small pond or a small fountain is not necessarily difficult to implement or even maintain.
How to Care for a Garden Pond or Fountain?
Pinterest
Ponds and fountains requiring minimal care should not be neglected. First, it's important to distinguish between their container (structure and reservoir) and contents (water). Since the movement created by the pump limits algae or mosquito breeding, it is recommended to regularly treat the water by adding a little white vinegar. This procedure also prevents lime scale buildup and does not harm animals coming to drink water. However, if your installation contains plants or fish, it's better to add an ecological filtration system that naturally cleans the water without any toxic impact. Feel free to manually remove debris or fallen leaves accumulating on the surface. Maintenance of the structure should be done according to the materials it is made from. For copper or rubber parts, a soft cloth suffices. But for stone or slate edges, use a brush. Once a year it is also recommended to remove the pump for cleaning with a toothbrush and – if needed – check filters, replacing them when necessary. In cold regions, you can also turn off the fountain once the first signs of winter appear by removing the pump to protect it from freezing until spring. Finally, when summer heat accelerates evaporation, water levels should be monitored and refilled as needed.
