Lamp from Muslin
It's very pleasant to create a cozy atmosphere at home with your own hands. What can be cozier and warmer than a family tea party after a long day at work? When news are shared and plans for tomorrow are discussed. We suggest making your family gatherings even more cozy – add the warm light of a handmade fabric lamp.
This lamp is quite simple and inexpensive to make.
Simple because you won't have to worry about straight edges – they are cut and uneven. Also, it doesn't take much time to make this lamp.
As for the low cost, judge for yourself. You will need:
- stainless steel wire (about 7.5 m)
- cotton veil or muslin (1-1.5 m)
- thread and needle
- pliers or wire cutters.

Step One
Cut three equal pieces of wire (90-100 cm). From each piece, make a circle. Bend the edges of the wire into hooks, connect them and tighten tightly with pliers.
Step Two
Cut four pieces of wire, 30-35 cm long – they will connect the rings. Take one piece and wrap it around the bottom ring, then the middle and top. Do the same with the remaining three pieces. Thus, you will get a frame.
Step Three
Your frame needs some stability. To prevent the wire from sliding, take small pieces of wire (3-5 cm) and wrap each joint with them.
Step Four
Cut a piece of wire 45-50 cm long – this will be the handle. Tie it to the top wire ring so that a handle is formed.
Step Five
Take cotton veil or muslin and carefully hem it around the wire frame. First, hem to the top ring, then to the middle and finally to the bottom.

At the bottom, gather the fabric ends and tie them with a knot. Attach the lamp holder with a bulb and cord at the top. Make sure the lamp hangs perfectly centered. And most importantly, use an energy-saving bulb – it doesn't get hot!
The shade is ready! Turn it on and enjoy your family tea party!
