Cost of Gypsum Board and Installation Works
Types of gypsum board and their cost
Gypsum board is a three-layer sheet building material: the inner layer (core) is made of pressed gypsum with various reinforcing fillers, and two outer layers are facing cardboard and reinforcing core.
GKL can be used as a structural material (gypsum board is used to build partitions, arches, niches, columns, ceilings, and floors), as well as a finishing material for various surfaces (gypsum board is used to finish walls, ceilings, inter-room and dividing partitions, window sills).

Advantages of gypsum board
- lightweight and easy to work with;
- easily combined with other surface types (glass, wood);
- GKL surface is suitable for any finishing (puttying, plastering, painting, wallpapering, tiling);
- there is an option to run communication channels behind gypsum board sheets;
- the material is flexible and strong, allowing implementation of objects of any form and size (columns, niches, vaults, arches, multi-level ceilings);
- ecologically clean material, harmless, does not contain toxic substances;
- gypsum board is non-flammable, a fire-resistant material that absorbs excess moisture or releases moisture depending on the room characteristics;
- gypsum board 'breathes';
- it absorbs sound well;
- it is reasonably priced (prices are listed below).
Types of gypsum board
Besides gypsum, some additives are included in the core composition to give the finished material various operational properties. The types of gypsum board are determined by the composition of the filler.
There are also generally accepted standards for the color of each type of gypsum board.
- Standard gypsum board or GKL contains no additives. The color of the material is mainly gray, can be blue. GKL is a finishing and construction material for use in rooms where humidity levels do not exceed 70%. GKL can be used to create inter-room partitions, decorative and sound-absorbing structures, suspended ceilings.
- Moisture-resistant gypsum board or GKLV is green gypsum board, where hydrophobic and fungicidal additives are included in the core composition, making this type of gypsum board suitable for use in humid rooms or rooms with elevated steam content.

IMPORTANT! The mandatory condition is that appropriate ventilation must be installed according to the needs of the room!
GKLV is made using impregnated cardboard, which enhances the water-repellent properties of the material (the percentage of water absorption is less than 10). For protection from moisture, craftsmen recommend coating the gypsum board with paint or tiles.
GKLV can be used to finish walls and ceilings in kitchens, bathrooms, toilets, as a base for floors, and to finish window sills.
- Fire-resistant gypsum board or GKLO is red-colored gypsum board. The special reinforcing additive - glass fiber - increases the material's resistance to fire and prevents ignition. GKLO can be used not only as a finishing material but also as a material performing a passive fire protection function.
This type of gypsum board can be used on objects with strict fire safety requirements, as well as in areas with an existing risk of ignition. GKLO is a material often used for surface finishing in places with large gatherings of people - these include retail stores, offices, entertainment centers, auditoriums, train stations, stadiums.
Also, there are wall-mounted, ceiling, arch-making, and acoustic gypsum boards.

Gypsum Board Sheet Sizes
Along with the type of gypsum board, its cost is also determined by the size of the sheets. Therefore, gypsum board sheets are rectangular in shape and according to generally accepted standards are produced in the following sizes.
- lengths from 2,000 to 4,000 mm;
- widths from 600 to 1,200 mm;
- thicknesses from 6.5 to 29.0 mm.
How Much Does Gypsum Board Cost
The main manufacturers of gypsum board are
- German industrial group KNAUF (70% of sales on the market);
- French company Compagnie de Saint-Gobain SA (TM Rigips, Giproc and Nida Gips - 10% of sales); Polish company Lafarge Group;
- domestic manufacturer Volgograd Gypsum Plant OJSC 'Gips' (TM Volma - affordable but also of high quality, like foreign brands).
