Tiny but very cozy kitchen 6 m² in a pre-revolutionary house
Modern solutions and classic style coexist here
The kitchen always occupies a special place in the house: it is here that people cook, gather for dinner, and share impressions after a long day at work. In a pre-revolutionary Moscow apartment, designer Olga Semasheva created a compact yet surprisingly comfortable and atmospheric space.
Inspiration came from the spirit of the old house, which was desired to be preserved while combining it with modern elements. As a result, the kitchen turned out bright, cozy, and practical.
Apartment layoutDespite its modest 6 square meters, the kitchen contains everything needed. A custom-made white cabinet system visually expands the space and makes it feel lighter. Wooden countertops add warmth, while a well-organized work area allows for comfortable cooking even in a small space.
Design: Olga SemashevaThe upper cabinets are made horizontal and painted white to blend with the walls, avoiding overloading the interior. The lower cabinets are made of veneer—natural wood texture beautifully complements the oak windowsill. This creates a unified harmonious space with no unnecessary details.
Design: Olga SemashevaIntegrated solutions became a real lifesaver for the project: built-in dishwasher, washing machine, and oven are hidden behind cabinet doors, making the space appear more open. Even a refrigerator found its place without disrupting the composition.
Design: Olga SemashevaIn the back part of the room, the designer created a dining corner: a small round table was set with an elegant tablecloth and flanked by comfortable chairs. For compact kitchens, this is a great idea—round tables take up less space and make dining more comfortable.
A kitchen in a pre-revolutionary apartment is a perfect example of how even 6 square meters can be transformed into a stylish and functional space.
