7 Ideas from a Townhouse in the Spirit of Oblomov That You Can Replicate in Your Interior
How to preserve historical atmosphere while making your home modern and comfortable
The interior of this apartment on Yakimanka was created by the bureau Apart76 (Tatyana Kozhevnikova and Valeria Kurakova) and inspired by the image of Oblomov — a symbol of unhurried life, home comfort, and elegance. Here, it was possible to preserve the historical spirit while making the space modern and convenient for living. And we've chosen seven ideas worth noting for you.
Divide the apartment into common and private zones
The apartment is divided into two parts: a private area with a master bedroom and a common area with a kitchen-dining room and office. The corridor helps maintain order and zone life: one half is convenient for relaxation, the other for entertaining guests and working. Even in small apartments, this principle can be applied: for example, separate the bedroom with a partition.
Design: Apart76Letting light through glazed doors
The glazed door between the entrance hall and kitchen-dining room is positioned along the window axis, allowing natural light to flow from one room to another. Thanks to this solution, even long corridors and narrow entryways feel more spacious. If your apartment lacks natural light, try using doors with glass inserts.
Design: Apart76Adding historical materials to a modern interior
The project used Metlinsky tiles with geometric patterns, French fir parquet, moldings, and ceiling roses. All of this evokes the traditions of old Moscow and creates a sense of an apartment with history. This approach is easy to replicate: just introduce one or two elements — for example, parquet or wall moldings.
Design: Apart76Working with saturated colors selectively
The apartment is generally decorated in a light palette, but the kitchen and office stand out with a deep emerald tone, so accents look striking without overloading the space. A good example of how to experiment: introduce a bold color locally — on the kitchen cabinet, in the office, or on an accent wall.
Design: Apart76Playing with contrasts of styles and textures
The designers combined smooth modern surfaces with classical moldings and natural wood. As a result, the interior looks lively and multi-layered. This approach can be used at home: boldly combine new furniture with vintage items, matte finishes with glossy ones, and fabric with metal.
Design: Apart76Choosing heavy furniture in the bedroom
The master bedroom is decorated in a calm palette, but the center of the room features a solid wooden and leather bed. Even if the bedroom is small, it's worth choosing quality furniture with a striking headboard — this immediately changes your impression of the room.
Design: Apart76Maintaining consistency in finishings
Despite various accents, everything in the apartment is connected by a common logic: oak parquet, marble surfaces, and classic finishing techniques. Therefore, the interior is perceived as a whole rather than fragmented. This approach can also be easily applied in your own home: define a base material palette and repeat it from room to room.
Design: Apart76The Yakimanka project proves that to create the atmosphere of a historical home, you don't need to live in an old estate. A few simple tricks — from tiles and moldings to accent colors and proper lighting — are enough.
