We show how designers solve the storage and comfort challenge in bathrooms with limited area

A small bathroom is definitely not a death sentence. Even on 3–4 square meters, you can organize convenient storage, a laundry area, and a full bathtub or shower. The key is to distribute the space wisely, get rid of unnecessary items and use every centimeter with care.

Designers find unconventional solutions: hiding the washing machine, moving storage into niches, making custom furniture. We've collected five projects where everything needed fit in a limited space.

Installation, wall-mounted cabinet and hidden appliances

In Anastasia Dubovskaya's project all solutions are subordinate to the task of saving space. Instead of a conventional toilet, they installed an installation with a decorative shelf on top — it provides extra storage space. Next to it is a compact shower with transparent partitions and a black frame — visually nothing blocks or fragments the space.

A wall-mounted cabinet under the sink solves two tasks at once: it opens up the floor and holds everything needed. The washing machine was tucked into a niche, with open shelves above it. A soft palette of white tiles and blue walls works to expand the space, while black accents make the interior graphic.

Freestanding sink and built-in storage

Designer Olga Shtennikova showed how even in the most compact bathroom you can do without a cabinet and not lose convenience. Instead of a usual fixture — a tall freestanding sink that visually lightens the space. Above it is a minimalist mirror with a thin frame.

In the shower — transparent partitions with minimal hardware: the cabin literally dissolves into the room. All storage systems are hidden in niches — closed shelves for household items were organized above the installation. This approach keeps clean lines and avoids cluttering the interior.

Cabinet above installation and full-wall countertop

In the bathroom designed by our heroes, every centimeter is used. Due to a compact installation, space was left for the washing machine above it — a built-in cabinet from floor to ceiling. It holds all household chemicals and supplies, remaining light.

A long countertop unites the sink area and technical block: creating a convenient surface. A mirror with a wooden frame supports the palette and adds coziness. Soft lighting enhances the atmosphere — pleasant to be here in the morning and evening.

Laundry behind a curtain and mirrored door

Lina Knyazeva's project is an excellent example of how in a 33 m² studio you can create a full bathroom and allocate space for laundry. Instead of a bulky cabinet — a terracotta curtain, behind which the washing and drying machines are hidden along with open shelves and space for a ladder and iron. This design makes the area mobile and convenient to use.

Another find is a fully mirrored door. It not only enlarges the space but also replaces a full-length mirror. Under the sink — spacious sliding drawers, and the countertop is custom-made from acrylic stone.

Washing machine in a cabinet

In this 1963 Khrushchev-era apartment, designer Alexandra Kruchkova got rid of the bathtub to free up space for a shower and full storage system. The washing machine was built into the countertop, with a convenient sink above it.

Instead of floor cabinets — sliding drawers that are neatly hidden behind facades and don't take up extra space. The shower partition was built from glass blocks: they do not block light and visually don't fragment the interior.

And the tiles on floor and walls, painted in a calm color, make the small space cozy and tidy.
