An incredibly cozy hunting lodge with a rich history

Actor Walton Goggins, known for his role as the wealthy tech magnate Greg in the third season of 'White Lotus,' has revealed his home in the Hudson Valley. This historic mansion built in 1924 sits on 50 acres of land and resembles a Scottish hunting lodge with its unique atmosphere. We tell you how the star, along with his wife, restored this century-old building and transformed it into a cozy family nest.

Main points from the article:

  • Walton Goggins moved from Los Angeles to New York and purchased a historic estate in the Hudson Valley spanning 50 acres;

  • The house was built in 1924 in the style of a Scottish hunting lodge with unique architectural details;

  • The mansion retains a gun room and a secret speakeasy bar from the Prohibition era with autographs of celebrities;

  • The interior was designed in collaboration with designer Shaun Henderson, preserving the historical character of the rooms.

From an 'untouchable' house to a family nest

When Walton Goggins and his family decided to move from Los Angeles to the East Coast, they never imagined they would become owners of a true historical treasure. The mansion they purchased in the picturesque Hudson Valley had not been updated for an entire century.

"All systems in the house were on the verge of breaking down," admits the actor. A full restoration took a year, and during this process, Goggins and his wife not only learned much about the estate's history but also about themselves. "We became better thanks to this experience because now we live in a place where we want to spend the rest of our lives," shares the 'White Lotus' star.

Secrets of a century-old estate

This historic mansion holds many intriguing details. One of the most notable is the "gun room," where the original owner stored his hunting weapons. The walls still retain special indentations for rifle butts.

But the true gem of the house is a secret bar from the Prohibition era. According to original blueprints, this space was listed as a "clothes closet," but in reality, it served as a hidden bar for guests. Celebrities such as Edna St. Vincent Millay, Babe Ruth, Walt Disney, and Joan Crawford once visited — their autographs still remain on the walls.

"What's special about this place and its history — all people who drank here left their signatures on the wall," Goggins explains. Continuing this tradition, the actor asks his friends to also leave their autographs since spending time with loved ones is very important for his family.

Interior with history and soul

In working on the restoration, Goggins enlisted his friend, designer Shaun Henderson, to recreate the atmosphere of the 1920s while adapting the space for modern family life.

"When we were designing this house, we wanted it to feel like 1923, a living salon," explains the actor. The interior features vintage furniture and items collected by Goggins during his travels.

The living room with 20 windows is the actor's favorite room. "We spend a lot of time here as a family. The sun rises right there, and we wake up early to drink cappuccino and sit here watching the sunrise. It's very romantic," shares the star.

A special place in the house is a 120-year-old fireplace. "I sit here by this fire with my wife or a friend, with a glass of wine, and just think about all the conversations that have taken place around this fire for over 100 years. It fills me with such joy," admits Goggins.

Art collection and personal spaces

Over the past 28 years, Goggins has been collecting art. Starting with small pieces bought as parking tips, he now owns an impressive collection. The house is filled with works by his artist friends Danny Fox and Wes Lang.

"Introducing our son to art is one of the most important gifts we could give him," believes the actor.

Goggins pays special attention to lighting. He collects lamps, most of which are made from brass or bronze. "What my family hates the most is how low I usually keep the lighting," jokes the actor. All lamps in the house are dimmable, and as soon as family members leave a room, Goggins immediately dims the lights.

Thoughtful layout and natural harmony

The house's architecture is thoughtfully designed down to the smallest detail. The living room faces south and is filled with sunlight all day, while the bedroom faces east — perfect for waking up to the first rays of sunshine.

"When we first saw it, we didn't expect such an effect. We woke up when the sun touched our eyes and couldn't believe what we were seeing. That this person had envisioned placing the house in such a way with architects to allow you to wake up in nature... it amazed our minds and opened our hearts. I can't believe we live here," the actor shares.

The dream team behind creating a dream home

Goggins especially emphasizes the importance of local craftsmen and artists who participated in the restoration: "It's very important to say that many artisans and artists from this community helped create our home, which we now call our family.

Among them are James Romanchuk with his son Dave, Jake Saka who handled plumbing, designer Shaun Henderson, electrician Din Warner, and Chris Gregory who selected the wall finishes.

"Just like in movies, actors don't make films alone; directors don't make films alone. A team of people every day comes and puts their heart into this," Goggins draws a parallel.

From Los Angeles to the Hudson Valley

Moving from sunny Los Angeles to the more secluded Hudson Valley was a true adventure for the Goggins family. Now, instead of Hollywood chaos, they are surrounded by forests where deer, wild turkeys, and even black bears can be seen.

The mansion that once occupied 1200 acres of land now stands on a 50-acre plot, retaining its seclusion and harmony with nature. Here was once a pheasant farm and hunting parties — typical entertainments for the elite of the 1920s.

This change in surroundings perfectly aligns with a new stage in Goggins' career. After the success of the third season of 'White Lotus,' where he played the tech magnate Greg, the actor continues to captivate audiences with his talent. The historic mansion in the Hudson Valley serves not only as a cozy family nest but also as an inspiration for new creative projects.

Homes of celebrities often look like pages from glossy magazines — flawless but lifeless. Walton Goggins' mansion is the complete opposite. It's a living space filled with history, art, and personal finds. A place where every item has its story, each corner breathes authenticity, and traditions of the past harmoniously blend with modern comfort. Homes like these become more than just a dwelling — they are a true reflection of their owners' personalities.
