Before and After: How They Transformed a Small Living Room in a Khrushchyovka

Khrushchyovkas are usually associated with small living spaces and outdated design. However, even in such apartments, cozy and stylish interiors can be created. We show how designer Maria Kachkina transformed a small living room in a two-room Khrushchyovka.

Before the renovation, the walls in the living room were painted pink, and the floors were covered with reddish paint — a clear sign of outdated design choices. The presence of a balcony above the door added extra “weight” to the entrance area, cluttering the space. All of this together created a very uncomfortable and even overwhelming atmosphere.

After the renovation, the living room underwent a remarkable transformation. The walls and ceiling are now painted in bright blue, which refreshes the space and gives it a modern and stylish look. The rich tone was balanced with laminate featuring a warm wood texture.

In the new living room, only the essentials were kept. Simple and minimalist clothing hooks and a stylish console for keys and small items do not clutter the space but highlight its functionality. This minimalistic approach not only makes the living room more convenient, but also creates a pleasant first impression of the apartment.

A bright accent in the entrance area was a colorful painting — its interesting subject creates a cozy atmosphere, bringing positive emotions from the very threshold. The painting was complemented with a brightly upholstered chair and a cute rug, adding comfort and warmth.

The new living room has a stylish and vibrant look — it creates a positive first impression and delights the eye, harmoniously combining comfort and aesthetics.
