Color selection for the kitchen is one of the most important decisions during apartment renovation. This is where we eat and, consequently, recharge our energy. The meaning and functionality of color largely depend on the owner's personality, but there are some general guidelines that should be followed.

1. Maintain a balance between cool and warm tones.

We subconsciously perceive this harmony. Dark colors bring restraint to the space, while light tones enliven it. Cool tones calm, warm tones stimulate. A balanced mix helps us feel comfortable.

2. Decide how you’ll use the kitchen most often, as the chosen color shapes the experience.

For spaces where people gather frequently to discuss life matters, cooler shades like light blue, grayish, or green work well. For women’s gatherings, a feminine palette—pink, blue, and plenty of yellow—is ideal. For salon-style conversations about art, blue and purple (used as accessories, not painted everywhere) suit the mood. For family gatherings, opt for calm, warm tones that create a cozy atmosphere. After all, the kitchen is a place where you’re always welcomed, where it feels warm and comfortable.

3. Color and appetite.

Everyone knows that the color of food and its surrounding environment greatly affects appetite. Subconsciously, we recognize which colors are edible and which are not. Bright colors—orange, red—increase appetite and trigger thirst. Red, in particular, stimulates digestion and has restorative properties, but can overstimulate some people. Use it wisely: napkins, tablecloths, and tableware can feature warmer, bolder tones than the main interior. Conversely, if you want to reduce food consumption, use cool colors like blue and green and their shades—they reduce appetite and have a calming effect.

4. Color scheme.

If your kitchen is primarily a cooking space, consider painting it green—it boosts productivity. Ultimately, you can use any color, as functionality is key. Keep everything within reach, but avoid turning cooking into a chore. Add vibrant accents—consider purchasing kitchen appliances in unusual colors like blue, pink, or red.
