Budget Kitchen Renovation 5 m² with Calculations and Before/After Photos

Katya rents this apartment with her son. To make the space more livable, she had to put in some effort. Additionally, her budget for kitchen renovation was only 5,000 rubles, and Katya easily fit within it!

Here's how the 5 m² kitchen looked before the renovation:

First, Katya removed the old wallpaper. She primed and painted the walls in several layers with white paint. Then she worked on the backsplash. She didn't change the tiles, as that would have been too expensive, so her daughter covered them with a layer of primer and painted in several layers. To create a smoother surface, she applied a coat of varnish on top.

Katya took off the upper cabinets and hung storage boards on them, which she bought on 'Avito' for 100 rubles each. The mounting hardware was also purchased on 'Avito' for 30 rubles per piece. An unconventional solution of open shelving turned out to be quite successful and budget-friendly.

Only the lower cabinet remained from the old kitchen set. The girl removed the pink film from it and covered it with white one with a wood texture. The film was also bought cheaply – for 159 rubles. Handles for the cabinet from IKEA: 30 rubles for two pieces.

Katya wanted to use a curtain on her small kitchen. She bought fabric in IKEA, sewed it with a hem for the rail and hung it on the sink cabinet. The curtain became a perfect addition and blends well with the rest of the interior. The kitchen now looks much cozier.
