Designer-decorator shared useful tips based on a real example

What to consider when choosing textiles for the kitchen to avoid ruining the room's interior and instead set the right mood. Designer-decorator Irina Chistyakova shares her insights.

A large and bright 13 sqm kitchen in American style is decorated with neutral pastel tones. This color palette serves as an excellent canvas for decoration. The key is not to overload the interior with unnecessary details and colors.

1. The Right Rug

The main feature of the room's finish is a "rug" made from the world-famous Metlakatla tiles. For the kitchen, Irina chose a monochrome pattern — it doesn't stand out with bright colors but still creates a more solemn atmosphere. This solution is beautiful, functional, and practical compared to the textile option.Photo: American style, Kitchen and Dining Room, Interior Decor, Tips – photos on our website

2. Table Runner

Irina chose a table runner in the color of a storm cloud with floral and bird motifs. The shades of this fabric echo the colors of the Metlakatla tile rug on the floor and blend harmoniously into the kitchen's interior.Photo: American style, Kitchen and Dining Room, Interior Decor, Tips – photos on our websitePhoto: American style, Kitchen and Dining Room, Interior Decor, Tips – photos on our website

3. Window Textiles

To avoid overloading the light kitchen interior, Irina opted for Roman blinds instead of multi-layered window textiles. 4. Decor

Decor can be a bright spot or an accent in your interior, creating contrast. Or it can harmonize with the overall color palette, blending into it. You can also introduce variety within one color scheme by using different patterns, as Irina did in her project. The kitchen walls are decorated with bricks of varying textures but mostly in white tones matching the interior's color palette.Photo: American style, Kitchen and Dining Room, Interior Decor, Tips – photos on our websitePhoto: American style, Kitchen and Dining Room, Interior Decor, Tips – photos on our website
