Spring is outside, which means it's time to tidy up the closet. We tell you how to store seasonal clothes properly in an apartment without ruining the interior design.

Sorting winter clothes begins with a preparatory stage. First, you need to take out all seasonal clothing and sort it into categories.

Inspect the items and ask yourself if all winter clothes will be useful next year. Maybe some items should be sold or recycled, and others simply thrown away. Thus, already at the preparation stage for storage, you reduce the number of items.

Store fur on the balcony

Fur items can be stored on a balcony or loggia. For this purpose, a compact wardrobe that fits well into a corner and doesn't take up much space is suitable. However, before sending the fur coat to the balcony, treat the wardrobe with pest control agents. Do not use polyethylene bags, otherwise the items will acquire a stale smell and the fur will fade.

Store knitted items in boxes

Knitted scarves, hats, and gloves should be folded into bags made of thick fabric or in boxes. If you don't want the items to lose their shape, put paper inside. Don't forget to add a moth repellent to the box with woolen items. Hats can be put on a frame, for example, on a glass jar. Ponchos and bulky scarves are best stored on hangers.

Store bulky items in vacuum bags

Down jackets, warm blankets, and other bulky items should be packed in vacuum bags. The air inside is removed using a vacuum cleaner, and the volume of the contents in the bag decreases several times. It is better to choose spacious vacuum bags that can hold more items, thus saving more space.

Hang leather jackets on hangers

Winter jackets and fur coats should be treated with a skin softener and stored in fabric bags. Leather outerwear should be stored on voluminous soft hangers. It is important to choose hangers by size. If a jacket hangs on too small hangers, it will stretch under its own weight.

Store winter shoes in containers

Before storing shoes, they must be washed and thoroughly dried. Do not place shoes near radiators. Leather boots should be washed with a soap solution and treated with wax. Suede items should be cleaned using special foam.

Shoes can also be treated with a disinfectant spray inside. To preserve the shape of boots and shoes, paper should be placed inside. You can also add silica gel packets for protection from moisture. Pack shoes in containers or boxes.

Store items in sliding drawers under the bed

To avoid filling shelves of wardrobes with boxes and bags of outerwear, use the space under the bed. The ideal option is a bed with a lifting mechanism. There is enough space inside to store bulky items. If the bed is ordinary, then sliding drawers, baskets, and special boxes for under-bed space can be used for storage.

If there is no space in the wardrobes, improvise

You can approach organizing storage for items with creativity. For example, find vintage suitcases and pack seasonal clothing in them. Such storage systems don't need to be hidden—they can serve as decoration.
