Renovation in old buildings is usually complicated by the demolition of partitions, finishing materials, and replacement of all utilities. But don't despair: apartment owners in this selection transformed 'killed' spaces into comfortable and stylish homes with the help of professionals.

Trash on Arbat

Designer Olga Tsurikova faced a challenging task, as the apartment is located in a 1928 building with wooden floors, making re-planning impossible. Therefore, they worked with the existing space. The project was completed in four months. In the living rooms, a bedroom and two children's rooms were created.

Two-room apartment in a Moscow Stalin-era building

To refresh the interior of a regular Stalin-era apartment, designers Andrei and Elena Uranov installed tall doors and removed window sills to let more light into the living room. They focused on English paints and natural wood floors. The final touch was colorful furniture and decor.

Small studio in a Khrushchev apartment

Designer Daria Nazarenko wanted to create a home interior reflecting the client's individuality and stay within a small budget. The solution was to combine all rooms into a studio and use transformable furniture that turns the living room into a bedroom.

The apartment designers Elena Musechenko and Marina Svyatodukh had to work with was so 'killed' that cosmetic interventions no longer helped. The labor-intensive renovation included full replacement of outdated utilities and all non-load-bearing partitions.

Designer Anna Rims managed to find an optimal solution to the problem: she removed old partitions and built new ones to design a kitchen niche and find space for a wardrobe, utility room, and shower.

The renovation of an old apartment required full demolition of internal partitions and construction of new ones. With the help of designer Sergey Khrabrovsky, they ended up with a spacious kitchen-living room and a private bedroom in light tones. The result is impressive.
