How to Decorate a White Interior to Make It Not Boring
In this London apartment, white walls, furniture, and even white decor. See how the owner managed to make a monotonous white color into an interesting interior
The owner of this apartment, Oscar Piccolo, is a designer from Sicily. As a child, he often moved—Ghana, Istanbul, Cairo, Libya. Thanks to such a lifestyle and a mother who was an artist, following whose path he went, Oscar relates to the space around him differently than others.
The interior is not about physical space but about objects that carry meaning and significance. They are what "make" the interior.

When Oscar first moved into the apartment, it had white walls and no furniture. The designer wanted to preserve the feeling of openness but also highlight functional zones.
Note that this task was not only accomplished with furniture and partitions but also with volumetric shapes of various geometric forms—a semicircular floor shelf and an arch in the living room, a rectangle with a circle in the middle, and a "snake" in the bedroom.

It might seem that for such a small space, these shapes are just enormous. But precisely because of their volume, they make the interior alive.
These elements are indeed large, but instead of overwhelming the space, they add volume. Thus, a white interior does not look lifeless.

The dining table and chair on the kitchen create an interesting furniture group with geometric shapes in the bedroom zone. After breakfast, the kitchen becomes Oscar's workspace.
Although, if you look closely, the entire apartment is filled with cardboard mockups for future design projects.

The only color accent in the living room is a fern and a blue plant house. Previously, the plant house was a bookshelf, but Oscar found it too boring.

What gives the perception of white in the living room, beyond various textures and geometry, is the daylight from a huge French window.
Despite London’s always "gloomy" weather, white in the interior does not turn into depressive gray—asceticism and coolness are softened by cozy wooden furniture and decor.
