We tell you how to save the most valuable resource – time – when renovating a bathroom

If you've decided to update the bathroom but are short on time, remember: the key is to plan everything in advance, act logically, and choose simple solutions. Details are below.

1. Correctly Conduct Preliminary Work

It may seem that preparing the room for renovation is the easiest part of the job. However, a lot of time can be spent, for example, removing old tile covering. To speed up the process, definitely use an electric drill, but not a hammer and chisel. Also, remember that it's easier and faster to remove tiles from the wall by prying them up from below rather than breaking them apart.

2. Choose a Semi-Dry Screed

Wet screed takes about 10–14 days to cure, significantly slowing down the renovation process. That’s why today, dry and semi-dry screeds are increasingly popular. The latter dries in no more than a week. The drying speed of the base depends on other factors, such as how many layers the mixture is applied in, the thickness of each layer, humidity levels, and room temperature.

3. Replace Tiles with Wall Panels

Laying tiles and waiting for them to dry is another time-consuming step in the renovation process. To save energy and precious hours, you can use convenient and fast-to-install wall panels instead. High-quality products are mounted on any surface, are wear-resistant, and waterproof.

Some people stubbornly prefer tiles due to the wider variety. But today, leading manufacturers are actively expanding their product range. For example, PANOLUX panels by Jacob Delafon come in over 20 stylish shades inspired by natural materials like mother-of-pearl marble, antique zinc, black granite, and honey oak.

4. Update the Bathtub

If there are no serious damages, you don’t have to buy a new bathtub. Restoring an old one is a way to save both time and money. The cheapest option is simply trying to clean the bathtub. Experts recommend using a technical solution of hydrochloric acid to remove yellow stains, and a mixture of wine vinegar and salt for rust.

Two more popular and effective methods to give your bathroom a fresh new look are enamel coating and pouring a new bathtub. In the first case, you manually coat the tub with enamel; in the second, a mixture is poured onto the edges and flows down the surface. Note that the pouring method is faster: the enamel dries in just 4 days. You can combine the drying time of the bathtub with the curing of the floor screed.

5. Avoid Relocation

Want to finish the job quickly? Then you’ll have to rein in your desires. If your goal, for example, is to expand the space, try doing it without re-planning. Install a large mirror on the entire wall, place artificial lighting correctly, replace a pendant light with spotlights, choose predominantly light or white tones for finishing, and use internal storage systems. Remember that fast renovation requires the simplest solutions.

6. Find a Renovation Crew

The idea isn’t new, but it’s always relevant. A professional will complete the job faster and better. In addition, if your plan involves more than a cosmetic renovation—such as installing plumbing equipment—you simply can’t do without the help of a qualified specialist.
