Villa Papion by WORKac: Mediterranean House for Art and Architecture
In Batrun, Lebanon, Villa Papion by WORKac redefines the dialogue between art, architecture and landscape. Completed in 2023, this 47,038 square feet residence was designed for a Lebanese art collector and his family, combining sea views, dynamic roof and spaces intended for displaying artworks while maintaining connection with nature.
Life in the Center of the Courtyard
The residence is built around an open courtyard, which becomes the heart of the house. Around this central area, living room, dining room and kitchen open directly to the street, while main living spaces and bedroom face the sea.
On the upper level, children's bedrooms overlook a double-height living room, ensuring each space has visual connection to the Mediterranean.
Transparency and Privacy
The villa is carefully balanced between openness and seclusion. Marine glass facades with access panels allow the house to fully open toward the water, immersing daily life in light and views. On the contrary, solid back walls protect the house from pedestrian traffic, ensuring privacy without sacrificing elegant design.
Architectural Rhythm Through Walls
A series of perpendicular walls organize the layout, each acting as a spatial divider and functional element. These walls contain staircases, cupboards and infrastructure, simultaneously serving as a surface for art displays, transforming architecture into a curated gallery.
Wrapped Roof with Seasonal Flexibility
The distinctive triangular roofs of the villa span across the architecture, terrace, pools and landscape, creating a unified formal language. Steel and aluminum grilles continue this geometry above courtyard areas, acting as seasonal filters: providing shade in summer and allowing sunlight in winter.
The green roof integrates the house into its environment, offering ecological benefits and bringing sculptural form to the villa.
An Art Villa, Nature and Horizon
Villa Papion is more than just a residence—it's a living gallery, where sea views, bold architecture and a world-class art collection intersect. With its multi-layered courtyards, open facades and wrapped roof, WORKac created a home embodying cultural sophistication while respecting the natural beauty of Lebanon's coastline.
