House V by Babayants Architects — Transparent, Light-Filled House in Moscow
Babayants Architects have completed the House V project, a single-story residential house of 400 m² (4,305 sq ft) in the Moscow region. The design is oriented toward a family closely connected with design and reflects a desire for conceptual experimentation, transparency, and simplicity, where light plays the main role in creating the atmosphere of the home.
Transparent Architectural Vision
The defining feature of House V is extensive glazing. At the client's request, architecture blurs the boundary between interior and exterior spaces, creating a sense of openness and visibility. While main living areas are transparent, privacy is preserved through carefully enclosed facades facing neighboring plots. The back of the house opens to a dense forest, strengthening its connection with nature.
The client also requested a graphite-gray exterior — a minimalist and stylish expression that highlights visual purity.
Light as the Main Character
Light was considered a design material in itself. It:
fills and reflects, creating layers of depth.
defines textures, rhythms and perspectives through volumes.
brings life to both interiors and exteriors, transforming the house throughout the day.
The result is a home where light itself becomes the primary storyteller of space.
Program and Layout
The single-level house is organized around a smooth family life:
entrance hall with utility storage
kitchen-dining room with panoramic glazing on both sides
living room, opening to a terrace facing the forest
guest room and bathroom, located on a mezzanine
master bedroom with walk-in closet and bathroom
two children's rooms with a shared bathroom
pool block and boiler room
garage for two cars, discreetly hidden from main relaxation areas
This balanced program ensures family intimacy and social openness, maintaining functionality without sacrificing elegance.
Mini Art Object — Acrylic Bench
One of the most notable elements in the project is a semi-transparent acrylic bench at the entrance. Designed in colored acrylic, it serves as both a seat and a mini art installation, immediately drawing attention.
Its reflective properties interact with the large glass panels of the house — including those surrounding the pool — creating complex games of light and water reflections, enriching the overall spatial perception.
Modern Family Sanctuary
House V is more than just housing; it's a conceptual platform where design, light, and landscape interact flawlessly. Combining panoramic transparency, minimalist materials, and poetic use of natural light, Babayants Architects created a house that is both visually striking and comfortable for living.
