Villa Fulo by Catálise Arquitetura

Villa Fulo, located in Carrasco, Brazil, was designed as a simple and rustic vacation home inspired by local regional characteristics. The project prioritizes regional materials and construction techniques such as wood treated using artisanal methods, and concrete floors. The small corner plot and IPHAN structural constraints determined that the house should have open spaces for everyday use.

The 1377 sq ft home features four bedrooms, a kitchen, service area and open spaces in the garden including a palm leaf-covered pergola, a pool with water jet, living room and dining table. Three blocks were created around the pool to minimize visual impact from the outside. The house also features a terrace above the kitchen with the pool and an amazing view of Bahia Bay. The decoration highlights local craftsmanship by combining rustic and modern elements.

Carrasco is a small fishing village known for its tranquility and peace. Located between the river and sea, the village has no cars, and streets are made of soft sand, so the only way to transport people and materials is by cart.

The architect created the concept of this simple and rustic seaside vacation home while preserving local characteristics. The project prioritizes regional materials and construction techniques: wood treated using artisanal methods; concrete floor and piaçava roof, which give users a sense of calm and comfort.

The small corner plot where the object was built, together with IPHAN structural constraints (a government agency responsible for local architectural heritage), determined that the residence should have open spaces for everyday use. Within 130 square meters, four bedrooms, a kitchen and service area were built. The remaining space is in the garden where there is a palm leaf-covered pergola: this area includes a pool with water jet, living room, main bedroom pool and dining table. There is also a terrace above the kitchen with the pool for public use and an amazing view of Bahia Bay.

However, 130 sq meters of construction cannot be done in one block because it would be disproportionate and too large for Carrasco. For this reason, three blocks were created around the pool. There is no alignment between buildings, aiming to create a feeling of spontaneous placement of local buildings. In the corner of the plot, 50 square meters are left open for street use with a bench. This thoughtfully planned urban space warmly welcomes pedestrians on warm days.

The first block contains the kitchen, toilet, pantry and an uncovered terrace with a stunning view of the sea. The access staircase is external, with known regional ceramic tiles on the floor. The second block contains two children's bedrooms for the couple and has a ceramic roof with low ceiling, like local dwellings. These blocks face the street, their height defined to minimize visual impact for those outside. The third block has a piaçava roof, contains the main bedroom and guest room and is located at the back of the plot. Unlike other blocks, it uses a high ceiling with mezzanine where matching double beds are placed.

The decoration, designed by the owners with neutral colors and furniture, transforms the house into a space combining rustic and modern elements, highlighting local craftsmanship.
