How to decorate a children's room? If you are looking for ways to decorate a children's room without spending too much money, the easiest option is decorative wall painting.

So, how to paint a room so that it looks great:

The Most Economical Way – Painting Walls with a Roller

You will need:

  • water-based paint;
  • roller;
  • paint colorant;
  • brush;
  • painter's board;
  • painter's tape.

Edge the ceiling and corners with painter's tape to avoid unwanted paint on these surfaces. Mix the colorant until you get a desired shade (if referring to a specific color tone, remember what proportions you mixed the ingredients in) or gradually add white paint to one of the colors. Dip the roller into the paint and remove excess using a painter's board.

Paint the walls with wide, sweeping motions from top to bottom. Painting one room may take only a couple of hours.

In corners and other hard-to-paint areas, it's easier to work with a small painter's brush.

This way, you can quickly paint the walls of a child’s room in different colors. For example, make striped walls by separating paint zones with the same painter's tape.

Painting with Sponge

This technique involves applying a semi-transparent layer of paint over a base color. This can enhance the base paint color or weaken it instead.

The background color can be applied with a roller.

For sponge painting, you will need:

  • paint;
  • brushes of various sizes;
  • fleece (a brush made from soft bristles for sponge painting);
  • cotton cloths;
  • sponge.

Paint the background layer of the walls with sponge painting paint: you need to sponge a small area of the wall surface.

Wet the sponge in a small amount of paint and gently dab it over previously painted areas.

This method allows you to create a soft texture on the walls.

Sponge Painting with Plastic Wrap

This method is also quite simple: place the plastic wrap against the painted wall without pressing it down and gently smooth it over the wall surface. After a few minutes, carefully remove the plastic wrap from the wall. The resulting texture can be smoothed out using a brush with soft bristles.

There are many other ways to decorate a child’s room walls using paint. For example, you can apply a pattern using a stencil. A stencil can be not just a cardboard sheet but also a sponge cut out in the shape of a favorite design or child’s print (hearts, butterflies, cars, bears, etc.).

How to paint a room in just a few minutes? Try applying paint without using brushes or rollers: you can draw with your hands, leaving, for example, colorful handprints or even footprints along the skirting board or scattered randomly around the walls. You can also decorate the walls with colorful paint splatters.
