Vintage is a big family bringing together different styles and eras. What's interesting is that regardless of the era, retro furniture usually pairs well with indoor plants. I'll show this without further ado.

DECORATION IN ART-DECO / ART-NOUVEAU STYLE AND PLANTS

Chronologically speaking, Art Nouveau (1890 – 1914) precedes Art Deco (1920 – 1930). These are quite different styles. Art Nouveau was inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement across the English Channel. It's about making functional things beautiful, with lots of curved lines and whiplash forms. They were also inspired by nature and women. Integrating plants next to furniture in the Art Nouveau style is quite simple. It's a kind of continuity.

Art Deco is somewhat different. There is a return to strictness. We will find straight lines, symmetry, more cubist inspiration. In short, it's a more restrained aesthetic. And suddenly indoor plants will allow you to add more nature and break the strictness of furniture (or even architecture of your space if you live in an Art Deco interior).

Whether you have Art Deco or Art Nouveau furniture, there's an idea of elegance along with vintage. Plants offer a more accessible side to the furniture.

OTHER OLD STYLES AND GREEN PLANTS

As we said above, vintage furniture is a big family that isn't limited to one era. We can think of the Neo-Antique style. In this case, plants help avoid a museum effect, too frozen in old times. There is also periodic furniture — a large family including Louis XV, Empire, Regency… Here too, in my opinion, plants help break the museum effect and dusty feeling we might sense.

Then there are older, simpler pieces of furniture without special styles. Without excessive flair. This is furniture we can easily find in Country Chic interiors, for example. We'll have wood that's aged with stains. The naturalness of plants will enhance the naturalness of furniture and give it a slightly more modern look.
