Before and After: How a 3 sqm Bathroom Was Transformed Into a Relaxation Zone
Training our eye and inspiring creativity
The bathroom in an urban apartment is becoming more than just a functional space—it's a place for restoration and solitude. This is especially true in projects where functionality is important, but so are the feelings and atmosphere.
Designer Iloona Rafikova decorated a small bathroom so that it visually appears as a spa zone: with warm lighting, tactile materials, and thoughtfully planned geometry. At the same time, the interior remains rational—providing enough storage space and modern appliances.
The layout was slightly modified: the bathtub and toilet were combined and partially expanded using the hallway. There's now room to install a full laundry and drying machine unit. The appliances neatly fit into the niche, and above the installation, a technical cabinet with taps was placed in the same style as the rest of the furniture.
Photo before renovationFor the walls in the 'wet' area, tiles in a neutral color palette were chosen, while on other sections, moisture-resistant paint with a soft pink undertone was used. The solution visually expands the room and creates a relaxing atmosphere. The wall color perfectly complements brass fixtures and wooden details.
Design: Iloona Rafikova The center of the composition is a stone sink made from river stone with expressive texture. It's mounted on a sleek cabinet with wooden finish—practical and visually warm: the combination of natural materials, tactile surfaces, and a restrained palette creates a sense of calm.
Design: Iloona Rafikova Lighting is meticulously planned down to the smallest detail. The mirror and bathtub lighting serves not only comfort but also makes the tub appear 'floating', enhancing the feeling of spaciousness and depth. The lighting transforms the bathroom into an atmospheric space in the evening, turning it into a personal ritual area.
Design: Iloona Rafikova The bathroom has become a continuation of the concept: bright, softly lit, with gentle accents and warm graphics. It remains fully functional, well-designed, and convenient for daily use.
