Brezhnev-era bathroom: before and after dramatic transformation
The difference before and after the renovation is dramatic
Homes in typical Brezhnev-era buildings are often associated with narrow, outdated bathrooms that require a complete overhaul to create a modern and comfortable space. Designer Elena Vertiy took on one such small apartment and transformed the dull, worn-out bathroom into a stylish and functional room while preserving its cozy vintage charm.

At the start of the project, the bathroom looked typical for Brezhnev-era flats: the walls were tiled with white square ceramic tiles and painted with paint that had lost its relevance over time and looked outdated. The plumbing needed updating — the bathtub and toilet no longer met modern standards, and the overall look gave a dull impression.

For wall finishing, not only tiles but also wallpapers were chosen, additionally stabilized with stone lacquer for durability. This approach provided reliable moisture protection, which is especially important in a small space with high humidity levels. This solution combines aesthetics and practicality, ensuring the chosen style remains relevant for years to come.

The cast iron bathtub was carefully restored. Now it serves as the main focal point of the room, bringing joy and pleasure from bathing to the residents. Special attention was paid to faucet selection — they perfectly complemented the design, enhancing its uniqueness. Every detail, from taps to accessories, was carefully chosen to create a harmonious atmosphere where modernity blends with retro charm.

As you can see, even in limited space, impressive results can be achieved while highlighting the uniqueness of your living space. Elena Vertiy approached the project with attention to detail and love for vintage aesthetics. As a result, the bathroom became not only modern but also retained the charm of retro style typical of the Soviet era.
