How We Transformed a 37 m² Panel Apartment into a Cozy One-Room Home in 2.5 Weeks on a Budget
We spent 300 thousand rubles on the renovation!
This is an investment project — in the future, the apartment will be rented out on a daily basis. Home stager Olga Bazanova used budget-friendly solutions and home staging techniques to turn a bland space into a cozy and functional living area. The main goal was to create an interior that would stand out in rental listings and provide maximum sleeping space without sacrificing comfort.
Location: Veliky NovgorodArea: 37 m²
Ceiling height: 2.7 m
Rooms: 1
Bathroom: 1
Design: Olga Bazanova
Budget: 300 thousand rubles
Before renovationBefore the renovation, the apartment had a standard design that allowed living in it but did not meet rental requirements. The interior was quite dull and unremarkable, making it difficult to attract tenants. To make the apartment more appealing, it was necessary to create a vibrant and functional interior. A key aspect was updating the furniture and decor, adding elements that highlight the apartment's individuality and create a cozy atmosphere for tenants.

About the kitchenThe kitchen cabinet was left unchanged. A compact retro-style refrigerator was added to give the kitchen a special charm and nostalgic atmosphere. The main accent in this space is the dining area. A round table named Tulip refers to a popular American mid-century style.
Chairs in soft natural tones perfectly harmonize with the overall concept, while a transparent chair adds a modern and light note. Above the table are posters that 'collect' all kitchen tones, giving the interior expressiveness.

About bedroom-living roomTo save on demolition, the wallpaper was painted with washable paint. A sleeping area was created using a colorful arch, replicating the arched opening between kitchen and entrance hall. Instead of a bed, two bunk beds were installed (similar to hotel style), allowing two people to sleep completely separately.

A collapsible bright sofa was also provided in the room for additional rest space. The guest storage system consists of a long wardrobe and floor-standing hanger, which is sufficient for temporarily storing items. Coziness was added through carefully selected textiles, decorative cushions, colorful coffee tables and bright posters that decorate the space above the sofa.

The walls of the balcony were updated using paint. A cozy relaxation corner was set up with a chair, floor lamp and table.
About the entrance hallOne of the walls in the entrance hall was made an accent wall by painting it a bright red color. This bold choice creates an expressive focal point that draws attention and sets the mood for the entire space. For convenience and comfort, a wall-mounted hanger for clothes, soft pouf and mirror were provided.

Nothing was changed in the storage room from the previous owner — comfortable shelves were left there. The doors were painted the same color as the walls, making them less noticeable, and a lock was installed for security. The storage room will be used by the owner to store items needed when hosting guests, such as consumables and bedding.
About the bathroomIn the bathroom, nothing was changed except for adding necessary functional elements: hooks and paper holder. Accent decor completes the interior, giving the room individuality and breaking up the sterility of white.
