How to Style Bed Headboards: 5 Designer Ideas
We show how professionals decorate the headboard area — using textiles, color, and other techniques
The bed headboard is not just a functional element, but an important accent in the interior. It sets the mood of the bedroom, highlights the composition and can become a focal point. There are far more styling options than just a soft panel or classic headboard. Designers experiment with geometry, color and texture to create unique solutions.
We've collected examples where the headboard area is styled with taste and originality. All solutions are easy to adapt — they won't lose their relevance over time.
Vintage Design with Eastern Character
In the interior designed by designer Alena Skovorodnikova, the headboard area was decorated using a traditional Eastern carpet. Rich pattern and deep burgundy-terracotta tone set the mood of the bedroom and emphasize the vintage character of the setting. The carpet takes up the full width and height above the bed, replacing a classic headboard and visually stretching the space upward.

In an interior by Lake and Walls studio, designers Evgeny Shevchenko and Oksana Zavarzina chose an eye-catching solution: an antique tapestry became the key accent, almost occupying the place of a conventional headboard. Its deep palette, intricate pattern and historical texture create a feeling of an art object.
Design: Lake and Walls studioThe canvas is mounted on a decorative cornice — the look fits well into an interior where historical references blend with modern forms. Contrasting background and restrained textile headboard highlight the richness of the tapestry without overloading the composition.

In Designer Zdes studio's project, the headboard area is styled using two techniques at once: wooden vertical strips and contour painting. The styling divides the wall into two equal parts, creating a well-balanced rhythm. The strips add volume and warmth to the space, while the bird motif continues the natural theme of the interior.
Design: Designer Zdes studioThe installation easily adapts to different wall geometries and doesn't require heavy structures. The whole composition looks light yet expressive — thanks to the combination of textures, graphics and architectural line clarity.

In architect Artemiy Sharonov's home, the headboard became a continuation of the concept 'life in harmony with nature'. The central bedroom wall is decorated with vibrant botanical wallpaper featuring large prints of banana leaves — a solution that immediately sets the tone and supports the natural palette of the interior.
Design: Artemiy SharonovThanks to the high ceiling and calm perimeter finishing, even a rich pattern doesn't overload the room but works as an artistic dominant. Supporting elements of nature include wooden side tables, green accents in textiles and minimalist pendant lights.

In a project by AN.NA design bureau, designers Anastasia Rybakova and Nadezhda Stepanova used one of the most accessible and effective solutions — partial wall painting. The area behind the bed is decorated with a geometric wash of saturated terracotta tone, which highlights the warmth of the yellow headboard and becomes a backdrop for posters.
Design: AN.NA designThe edges of the wash are clean, without additional frames or moldings. This technique requires no complex finishing but visually unifies the composition and adds character to the interior.
