In the apartment of journalist and producer Anastasia Rusakova, the kitchen has an unconventional layout — there are many angles and boxes that needed to be creatively incorporated. Anastasia decided to handle the design herself without a designer and beautifully organized the space. We share the best ideas from her project for a cozy and functional kitchen.

Appliance niche

In the developer's layout, an inconvenient box was located on one wall. To make use of it, they extended the wall from the corridor using a tongue-and-groove panel. The newly created niche houses a refrigerator and a cabinet-unit, which includes space for an oven and a shelf for storage behind closed doors.

Laminate Countertop

We are used to laminate being used only for flooring. In this kitchen, it was used for the countertop. It is resistant to high humidity, temperature fluctuations and steam, which is very important in a kitchen.

Boar Tile Backsplash

Anastasia chose the Scandinavian style for her kitchen, so she opted for light materials in the finish. The kitchen backsplash is made of smooth white 'boar' tiles. They are easy to maintain — dust doesn't stick to them and grease doesn't penetrate, so the tiles just need a wipe with cleaning product.

Open Shelf

Using leftover laminate from the countertop, they made a mounted shelf. It holds decorative items — this solution blends perfectly into the Scandinavian style.

Lighting Line in Cooking Area

The cooking area on the suspended ceiling is highlighted with a lighting line. This is not only a beautiful ceiling design that emphasizes the geometry of the cabinet unit. The lighting line provides bright light sufficient for comfortable cooking.
