7 Great Ideas for Designing a Small Balcony
Created a cozy relaxation area, vanity table, workspace, and storage space
Using the example of a beginner designer Julia Kuchkova's apartment, we show functional ideas that can be implemented on a small balcony of 1.3 m². It is attached to the bedroom and has many uses: the homeowner does makeup, works, talks with guests, irons, and relaxes on the balcony.
Neutral Background
On a small area, the designer used light tones in the finish — they visually expand the space. Against neutral shades, all materials and decor gain special clarity and texture. The walls are painted with washable white paint. This is a practical solution since any stains can be removed from it.
Accent WallThe wall behind the vanity table is decorated with a panel that visually highlights this area. The pattern looks stylish, and its tones echo the accent elements, wall lamp, and table hardware.
Practical Window Sill
An artificial stone was used for the window sill finish. It looks rich and textured. Artificial stone is a very practical material — it resists impact loads and is resistant to chemical effects. At the same time, the window sill serves as a shelf for books and decor.

Heated FloorsThis is a modern and efficient solution that allows even heating of the balcony. The heated floor creates comfortable conditions for working and relaxing at any time of the year. It is easy to install, safe in operation, and has a long service life.
2-in-1: Vanity Table and Workspace
The white table serves as both a vanity table where the homeowner does her makeup and a workspace. A desk lamp and wall lamp provide comfort for working in the dark.
Sofa-ChestThis piece has three functions:
- It serves a decorative role, looking original and stylish.
- A comfortable sofa where it's easy to sit, read, or drink coffee.
- Spacious storage space where the homeowner keeps rarely used household items.
Vintage ItemsJulia's interiors always feature lots of vintage items. The chair near the vanity table was found on the street and she couldn't walk past it. It was restored, reupholstered, and resulted in a beautiful and comfortable piece of furniture.
