Chose a light color palette, and added individuality to the interior with accents

Designer Lana Alexandrova completely renovated a small kitchen in a two-room apartment in a khrushchyovka for her mother. The goal was to expand the existing space and make it more functional. Therefore, the entrance to the kitchen was moved into the living room, and the windowsill was used as a bar counter.

Cabinets were arranged in a G-shape. Furniture was purchased from IKEA. "The most successful solution was to make a cabinet-penalty that spans the entire height of the kitchen, where both household appliances and food storage fit. We also chose an integrated refrigerator and upper cabinets only on one wall, hidden from view — this makes the kitchen look harmonious, whole, light, and yet functional," — the designer explains.

For finishing, brick tiles were used in a "Christmas tree" layout. The ceiling and ductwork for ventilation were painted. The floor features light tiles with a pattern matching the kitchen cabinets.

The countertop was extended onto the windowsill: it can be used as a spot for a quick snack or working on a laptop. A special opening in the countertop was made to allow warm air from the radiator to escape.

The window was decorated with a Roman curtain made of fabric with peaches and a yellow trim — the textiles lift the mood and add sunshine.
