How to Refresh Your Interior Over the Weekend: 10 Ideas

This page is also available in the following languages:🇷🇺🇺🇦🇫🇷🇩🇪🇪🇸🇵🇱🇨🇳

We've gathered great ideas and devices that can help

To transform a "worn-out" interior, it's not necessary to do a large-scale renovation — for example, painting walls or changing floors. Just a few days and attention to details like textiles, lighting, and decor are enough. We explain how to make your space feel fresher and cozier in just one weekend.

Do a Deep Clean

Although this may seem obvious, it's very important: cleanliness is not only about aesthetics but also about caring for your health and psychological well-being. During cleaning (i.e., physical activity), endorphins are released, and your home becomes better right before your eyes.

Essential tasks list:

  • Vacuum thoroughly (under sofas, beds, and in hard-to-reach places),
  • Dust surfaces (reach all hard-to-access spots, even the highest shelves in wardrobes),
  • Wash floors (remove all items from surfaces to ensure effective cleaning),
  • Wash windows and glass surfaces (after using a soapy solution, don't forget to wipe the glass with a microfiber cloth),
  • Wipe mirrors.

Clean the Wardrobe

Winter is coming to an end, which makes it the perfect time to organize your closet. Iron and reorganize clothes for the spring-summer season, and pack away winter items you won't need anymore into beautiful boxes until next year. If you don't have a proper storage system, buy the necessary accessories — hangers or organizers.

Arrange clothes neatly in your wardrobe: hang items of the same category together (e.g., sweaters or t-shirts) so it's easier to find what you need. You can also get rid of clothing from your wardrobe that you haven't worn in a long time: decluttering is another key to a comfortable interior.

Tip from INMYROOM: An ideal helper in daily life is the smart ironing system Ixeo Power 3 in 1 from Tefal — it doesn't take up much space and gently cares for your clothes. The device perfectly irons both cotton t-shirts and your favorite silk dress. The system combines an iron, steamer, and ironing board: to keep your clothes in the wardrobe neat, just one modern device is enough.

Ironing will become a more convenient process: the three-position ironing board can be mounted in vertical, horizontal, or 30° angle positions. No more effort is needed to make perfect creases on trousers or steam home textiles.

You'll save not only time but also energy: the system heats up in 70 seconds, and powerful steam removes wrinkles at an amazing speed — just a few simple movements, and your dress or suit is ready to go out.

Update Furniture

As we said, you don't need to buy new chairs or sofas to refresh your interior. Old furniture can easily be given a second life: update the upholstery if it's outdated or you want to add a vibrant accent. By the way, you can also reupholster your sofa by yourself.

If you don't want to spend time on this, there is another option — steam clean the old upholstery. Hot steam kills bacteria, making your furniture cleaner and fresher, without using household chemicals!

Tip from INMYROOM: One of the concerns for homeowners is damaging expensive clothes or home textiles during ironing. But with the Ixeo Power 3 in 1 system, you don’t have to worry about using the steamer on any fabric: from silk and cotton to furniture upholstery.

Thanks to its three steam modes: Normal — a universal mode suitable for all fabric types, Max — for dense materials (ideal for jeans and furniture), Eco — a low-energy mode for delicate fabrics. Powerful steam makes fabrics fresher: the steamer eliminates up to 99.9% of bacteria and removes unpleasant odors. Ixeo Power allows not only gentle but also comfortable steaming of all soft furniture. With the removable base, you can easily iron upholstery or curtains in any part of your apartment.

Focus on Greenery

Flowers in a vase or pot can transform any space. There are several points to consider here. If you're often away from home, houseplants that don't like frequent watering are best — succulents or Sansevieria. Remember to look for solutions for forgetful people — pots with auto-watering systems.

Consider the microclimate in each room: cacti thrive in direct sunlight, while moderate lighting works well for Ficus. When choosing pots, consider the design: for Scandinavian style, woven baskets are ideal; minimalist interiors look great with plants featuring large leaves and monochrome planters with strict geometry, while classic styles suit flowering plants and pots with clean decor.

Refresh Textiles

An interior can look “worn out” due to textiles, so it's important to give them a fresh appearance. Wash and iron curtains, throws that helped keep you warm in winter, and tablecloths (if they're fabric).

Remember that delicate fabrics require proper care: curtains should be washed at low temperatures, and maintaining their freshness in the future is easy with a steamer.

Tip from INMYROOM: A steamer is the best helper for adding shine to textiles. With Tefal's Ixeo Power 3 in 1 system, no droplets remain on clothes or interior items that could damage them: water in the device is converted into steam and delivered to the iron under pressure. Most importantly, the device is not only multifunctional but also stylish. The system fits any design — from minimalism to cozy Scandinavian style.

Clean Tiles in the Bathroom and Kitchen Backsplash, Update Grout

Build-up on tiles can ruin any interior. One of the most effective natural cleaning agents is vinegar, but you can use any method that suits you. Tidy up the shower cabin or bathroom tiles and remove grease and other dirt from the kitchen backsplash.

If you want more dramatic changes, updating tile grout is the easiest option. It won’t take much time, but the room will come alive again. Even a simple white bathroom can transform if you change the grout color to black.

Organize Storage in Kitchen Cabinets and Bathroom

A chaotic collection of items on shelves looks untidy, and it becomes harder to find things. You can solve this problem and add a touch of elegance to your bathroom and kitchen with proper storage organization. Put cutlery in trays and containers if they're not already sorted, and buy stylish jars for powdered foods in the same style. Keep rarely used appliances out of sight to avoid clutter.

In the bathroom, get rid of visual noise (brightly colored shampoo or shower gel packaging) — transfer them into stylish dispensers. Shelves help reduce surface clutter, and a beautiful woven basket is perfect for storing towels.

Wash or Replace Dishware

Once the kitchen is cleaned and storage is organized, it's time to address the dishes. Streaks on kettles or pots look untidy, and these items are often visible. So, start with thorough cleaning: clean old pots to a shine, remove not only stains from the kettle but also limescale.

If the dishes are no longer repairable, dispose of them and buy new sets — a great opportunity to purchase a stylish kitchen set in one style or modern pans.

Declutter

Think of your grandmother's apartment, where every room was overloaded with items. For a harmonious interior, it's important to periodically declutter — get rid of everything unnecessary. Sort through drawers where everything is stored, wardrobe, cosmetics, bathroom, kitchen, and wardrobes.

What items should you get rid of? Bottles of skincare products you haven't used in a while, faded towels, torn textiles, chipped dishes, and old sponges or broken interior items that haven't been repaired for years (and likely won’t be).

Add More Light

Lighting in interiors is just as important as decor. It helps zone spaces and create atmosphere. Make sure to clean all lightbulbs in your home. If some don't work, replace them with new ones. Ensure that lighting is consistent throughout your apartment — warm white light works best for living spaces. Do you notice a particular area is not well lit? Add a stylish floor lamp or wall sconce.

Of course, you should also wash the chandeliers themselves: gently rinse each detail to make the chandelier look brand new.
