Transforming this typical one-bedroom flat in a Khrushchyovka into a stylish interior inspires renovation ideas

Designers from Mirburo Studio created a minimalist and bright interior for a young client who loves sports and art. They chose simple yet anti-vandal materials, with the accent placed on a minimalist atmosphere. Want to recreate this at home? Take these ideas down for notes.

Tile behind the kitchen cabinet

Wall cladding all around the perimeter is a very functional and practical solution. Tile is easy to clean and hard to deform. And it's not expensive at all if you choose the simplest white squares.

A part of the wall in the dining area was tiled. An unusual and rarely used solution, but very interesting and practical! Usually paint and wallpaper in the chair and bench area get stained and lose their look — with tile, that won't happen.

The standout feature of the interior is plywood: it was used for the kitchen sliding door, window sills, a bathroom cabinet and a partition-shelf between the kitchen and living room, where the refrigerator is located on the kitchen side and the washing machine on the hallway side.

The main storage system is a full-wall cabinet. Initially, the designers wanted to order it custom-made, but calculations showed that a ready-made solution would be three times cheaper. The cabinet includes a compartment for storing a vacuum cleaner, dryer, ladder, books section, and the rest of the space is dedicated to seasonal and permanent items.

In the hallway, ceramic granite was partially installed on the wall where the bicycle stands. “Tip — if you have open hooks in the hallway, make a tile on the wall behind them to prevent paint from staining,” — designers share.

A wall between the kitchen and bathroom was rebuilt using glass blocks. This is a wise choice — if the apartment gets plenty of sunlight, and the bathroom receives lots of light in summer.
