You have probably seen a washing machine in the kitchen or hallway at some point. In such unusual places, it may end up for one simple reason: it was bought before the apartment was arranged.

This is not about built-in models — with them, problems during installation usually don’t arise. But where to place a regular washing machine?

We will try to find out this with the help of Russian designers.

1. Under the Counter

A typical front-loading washing machine reaches about 85 cm in height. It can be placed under a countertop of any type: wooden, stone, or plastic. To make the machine less noticeable, it is better to cover it. Additionally, extra outlets should be planned for it during the design project stage.

2. In a Bathroom Niche

Partitions in the bathroom can be made by yourself using regular gypsum board and tiles. In addition, when placing the washing machine in such a niche, there will be free space above it for a wall-mounted cabinet or shelves. Thus, the storage problem in the bathroom is also solved.

3. In a Separate Laundry Room

To organize a full laundry room, it is enough to free up a storage area or balcony. If space allows, it is possible to also place a dryer, which will save from hanging clothes all over the place. Both machines can be placed one above the other or under a single countertop (which also serves as an ironing surface).

4. In a Wardrobe

To kill two birds with one stone, you can place the machine in a small cabinet and use the rest of the wardrobe space for clothing and shoes. It’s useful to buy a foldable ironing board — it will be handy for bedding and everyday clothes.

5. In a Cabinet

A washing machine can be placed in a cabinet in the room or hallway. This will save square meters on the kitchen and bathroom, allowing other necessary items to be installed there.

However, this method of placement involves one caveat: arranging water supply and drainage.

6. On the Wall

In extreme cases, a washing machine is 'mounted' into the wall. However, this should be a machine of a specific model — it looks like a space unit but takes up much less space.
