Where and How to Store Pillows and Blankets: 7 Tips from a Space Organizer
Expert shares useful life hacks
Bedding requires much more storage space in an apartment than clothes or shoes. To prevent bulky sets from cluttering the interior of a small apartment, you just need to find appropriate corners for them.
We turned to a space organization specialist — Olga Kuleshova — and she shared seven secrets for storing bedding accessories.
1. Storage Method
First, you should understand what percentage of your time will be spent on house cleaning — it can be one hour or a whole day.
For example, if you don't like cleaning frequently and for long periods, it's better to store pillows and blankets in a container with a lid and handle.
Pinterest2. Storage Location
Bedding accessories should be stored near the place where they are used. For example, children's bedding should go in a dresser in the child's room, while adult bedding should be placed in a wardrobe in the bedroom.
3. Shelf Height
It's important to remember that shelves for storing pillows and blankets should be slightly above eye level. These aren't daily items, but constantly reaching for them with a ladder isn't very convenient either.
It's only okay to put bedding on lower shelves if it's stored in a closed organizer and doesn't collect dust.

A guest bedding set might come in handy when relatives or friends stay overnight. Set aside a spot on the adjacent shelf, in a separate box, or soft organizer for it. Since guest bedding is rarely needed, it can be stored under the bed or on the top shelf of a wardrobe.
If you have an organizer with rigid sides, measure the shelves carefully — especially in height.
LIFE HACK: It's convenient to store rarely used items in a suitcase. First, place them in a vacuum bag or soft organizer — then it's easy to take them out and leave on the shelf.
5. Categorizing Bedding
Pinterest6. Extra and Seasonal Bedding
Extra or seasonal blankets and pillows can be stored in vacuum bags — especially if you have limited shelf space or don't often think about this bedding. The bag's volume should match the amount of items (in a pinch, two bags may be used).
To remove air from the bag, use your own strength or a vacuum cleaner (the latter will be much more effective).
IMPORTANT: Every 4–6 months, bedding from vacuum bags should be taken out and aired.
Pinterest7. Winter Storage
With the onset of winter, pillows and blankets can be moved to the balcony to freshen up. Cold will eliminate all bacteria that inevitably form in bedding over time.
Bedding can also be stored in special bed or sofa boxes. Where do you store your bedding and what do you do to keep it fresh all the time? Share your tips in the comments!
