Cool bathroom renovation in a Khrushchyovka: how everything fit into 3 sq m
It became bright and not at all cramped
A common problem for most bathrooms is that there's just not much space. That's why organizing storage, a shower, and laundry can be extremely difficult. However, designer Inga Ermakova made the impossible and solved the re-planning issue of a bathroom with only three square meters in a Khrushchyovka.
We tell you what tasks she solved and how it affected the appearance of the space. These unexpected solutions will be appreciated even by professionals.
What she started with:
- TYPE OF HOUSE: Series 511
- MEASUREMENTS: 1.8 x 1.55 m
- CEILING HEIGHT: 2.5 m
- BUDGET: 129,000 rubles

Reconfiguration
It's not new for Inga to make a tight space functional — she previously fitted a bedroom with a wardrobe and a spacious kitchen-living room in an apartment. In the bathroom, she had to plan storage and arrange household appliances ergonomically. To save square meters, a shower was installed in the bathroom.

The wall between the bathroom and kitchen had to be rebuilt, as it was at a 75-degree angle. One window was replaced with two, so now sunlight illuminates the hallway as well.

The door opening was also moved, and storage systems were placed on both sides. A compact washing machine with a depth of just 37 cm was installed in the left corner.

Finishing
Instead of tiles, the bathroom was painted with moisture-resistant paint in a matte blue shade. Thanks to this choice, the room became cozier and allowed more natural light in.
The floor and walls of the shower were tiled, and a 100x80 cm tray was laid with mosaic using epoxy grout. The tiles were chosen in such sizes that no cutting was needed during installation.

Storage
A towel rack was placed to the right of the sink, dental care items are in the upper cabinet section, and cleaning chemicals are under the kitchen sink.
Laundry detergent, soap, and toilet paper are stored in a frame of a hanging IKEA kitchen cabinet, which was cut down to 20 cm in depth.

Color scheme
Surprisingly, the deep blue shade of the walls actually expanded the room. The shower wall with colorful ceramic tiles doesn’t draw attention.
The ceiling light and mirror backlight nicely complemented the natural lighting, since the window frames bring in plenty of daylight during the day.

An orchid, even if artificial, became a real decoration in the bathroom.
The renovation of this bathroom took exactly two weeks, as Inga needed to fit it into the overall apartment renovation schedule.
