In this Moscow two-room apartment, designer Elena Markina implemented a minimalist interior with echoes of American style.

We have highlighted seven useful tricks she used and suggest you take note of them.

1. Mirror Door for the Kitchen

The kitchen with a gas stove should be equipped with a door — and in this project such a door was provided. They chose a sliding mirror door of the same plane type opening.

Since windows are reflected in mirrors, the space visually becomes wider and there is more air in it. Thanks to the invisible mounting mechanism, the door does not make extra noise during operation.

2. Cold Cabinet Under the Window

In the apartment, the space under the windowsill was preserved as a 'compartment' for a refrigerator, which in Stalin-era buildings usually served this purpose.

The windowsill and cabinet were deepened, and also covered together with radiators using ventilated facades made of birch solid wood and painted to match the furniture.

3. Gas Pipe on the Kitchen

To avoid ruining the interior with a visible gas pipe and valve, Elena masked it. For this purpose, they rewired the shut-off valve. Now it is located in a suspended cabinet. The gas pipe was covered with a gypsum false front and clad with decorative tiles.

Thus, there was no need to sacrifice the countertop area or suspended cabinets. Everything looks beautiful and aesthetically pleasing.

4. False Beams and Curtains

The beams on the ceiling were originally distributed throughout the living space. The designer leveled the architectural structure of the room using false beams — they also made it possible to install niches for curtains.

The combination of low cornices and moldings helped save the budget. In the living room, it was done in a white shade, and in the bedroom — in harmony with the walls, which visually raised the ceiling height.

5. Storage Under the Bed and Sofa

Two sliding drawers were placed under the sofa in the living room for storing items. The sleeping areas are equipped with lifting mechanisms for mattresses, so storage space under the bed is also available.

6. Posters with Bonus

Aesthetic elements were added to the apartment through posters with original artwork and complex mounted passepartouts. In addition, an electrical panel is hidden behind a poster in the hallway, and a service hatch is located in the bathroom. Take note of these simple tricks!

7. Handle for the Shower Door

A chrome handle-rail in the shower can be used as a towel holder, making it easier to access towels. There is no need to reach for them after the shower in the closet or adjacent wall.
