Before and After: Incredible Kitchen Transformation in a 6 sqm Hruščëvka
A pair from Volgograd did an amazing renovation without a designer during the pandemic
We already told about how Irina (@xrushchevka) and her husband had to do a renovation in the middle of the first wave of coronavirus and quarantine: it was not easy, but it turned out great. Today we decided to tell more in detail about how a couple from Volgograd managed to transform their micro-kitchen.
Black lights from AliExpress, lamps from Leroy Merlin. The kitchen is small, only 5.8 sq m. But I still decided not to make upper cabinets opposite the window, I didn't want to clutter the space. This wall was painted with graphite paint, and it was planned to draw with chalks on it, but over a year hands never reached it.
The minimal number of storage places is very disciplining. There's no room for clutter, only what is needed.

Countertop – Wand wood. The kitchen cabinet was ordered from a private craftsman in our city (Volgograd). They made and installed it for us in a month: despite the quarantine, they didn't let us down. But large furniture stores backed off, but we won't go into that.

Under the windowsill, we kept a hruščëvka refrigerator, which we decided to use as additional storage space. As for the radiator, we cut it off, pipes were buried in the walls (after replacing them not only in our apartment but also in those of neighbors above and below), we installed a warm floor, and then laid ceramic granite on top.

We decided to choose a white 'pig' backsplash, not individual bricks but plates of 18 pieces. Our backsplash cost about six thousand rubles (excluding materials, grout and labor). Many ask why tiles go up to the window. This is because under the windowsill, we have a full countertop where I cook. It's harder to clean plaster than tiles.

The table from IKEA cost us 6600 rubles and fits perfectly by size, even fitting on the kitchen and not interfering there at all! But I like it better when it stands by the window in the living room. We unfold it rarely, only when guests come. Size: 80/120 x 70.

We decided to highlight the TV area with laminate in the color of the kitchen countertop and the windowsill in the living room. To visually increase the space, we made a mirror panel opposite the window. Tile size – 20x20 cm, bought at Leroy Merlin. We needed 16 triangles and 41 squares. Triangle price – 83 rubles, square price – 140 rubles. Total: 7068 rubles.
