How to Add Neoclassical Elements to a Modern Interior?

Forget about expensive accessories, carved furniture, and gold-embossed wallpapers. Neoclassicism is beautiful yet minimalist, which is its main advantage.

Neoclassical interiors are free of pomp and excess — only sophistication and beauty. Together with Leroy Merlin experts, we share tips on how to enhance a modern interior with neoclassical elements.

Choose calm colors

No bright or 'acidic' colors in finishes and accessories. But this doesn't mean the interior will be boring. Opt for deep tones and pastel shades. Blue, pale violet, green, traditional white, and beige — these are exactly what you need.

Use floral and geometric patterns

Create an accent wall with floral wallpaper or place a soft armchair with the same pattern. Graphic patterns are best reserved for accents: on curtains, pillows, or throws.

Plan several light sources

A must-have for neoclassicism is a chandelier. It's great if it's large, with glass decor and suspensions. A decorative socket can be mounted at the base.

Add additional light sources: side pendant lights, wall sconces, spotlights. Symmetry is a hallmark of neoclassicism, so choose pairs of lights and plan where to hang them.

Use moldings

A simple way to add neoclassical elements is combining paint and moldings in wall finishing. Moldings can be used to create wall panels, highlight mirrors or paintings. Even without additional decorations, moldings look striking.

Add more textiles

Decorative pillows, multi-layered drapery on windows, throws on the sofa or bed. Also, tablecloths and soft cushions on dining chairs. By the way, choose pillows with weights — just in line with neoclassicism.
