It's not only about classic style — moldings can fit into any interior if you choose them correctly and know certain details

With designer Anna Modzharo, we explain how to diversify space using moldings.

How to Choose Moldings?

Molding is a decorative detail in the form of a mounted convex strip. It can visually raise the ceiling, add volume, and diversify space.

Moldings come in various widths, so you should choose them proportionally to the room. For example, for small rooms with low ceilings, I recommend narrow models — up to 2.5 cm.

In spacious rooms with high ceilings, wider moldings will be appropriate, but it all depends on the pattern you want to achieve.

Where to Start Decorating Walls?

First, make a sketch of the pattern you plan to achieve. Don't worry if you don't know what distance should be between moldings. The main thing is that they are placed evenly and proportionally.

Small life hack: If you want to make frames from moldings, the distance between them should be equal to the height of the baseboard — about 12–15 cm.

Based on your sketch, builders will glue the moldings using special adhesive. Do this before painting the walls. I recommend using adhesive from the manufacturer — it ensures there will be no issues.

How to Use Moldings in Interior Design?

Most often, designers paint moldings the same color as the walls — it looks great. However, you can place them anywhere. Here are a few options I like.

The most popular option is to make wall frames from moldings. For example, asymmetrical, as shown in the photo.

Moldings can also decorate not only walls but also ceilings. Or as decor — mirrors and paintings will work well.

You can also vary them with printed wallpapers.

An interesting solution is combining moldings and decorative outlets. Hidden doors don't need to be emphasized — moldings can help hide the door in the interior.
