Cozy Apartment in Old Paris Quarter
Architects preserved elements of old finishing and 'paired' them with modern furniture and decor. For an accent, they painted some walls and wardrobes in deep blue tones
This three-level apartment of 170 square meters in Paris was entrusted to the studio Stirnberg Esteve Architects for restoration. The architects had a meticulous job with all the nuances and specifics of the apartment in a historical building, asymmetrical layout, and exposed rough beams. In short, it was a creative and responsible task.

The apartment is located in one of the houses of the old Parisian quarter Marais. Such intricate layouts here are a common occurrence. Nevertheless, masking or hiding the open structural framework of the apartment would have been wrong. The architects decided to make an accent out of it – they left the exposed beams as is and cleared brickwork on one wall to support this idea.

The rest of the furnishings was kept minimalist: rustic elements look particularly interesting against a backdrop of clean geometric forms.

Custom-made storage units and shelving had to be designed to accommodate height differences in walls and ceilings. The cabinetry was completed with nearly invisible hardware so that storage systems wouldn't draw attention and create an illusion of clean walls in the interior. The same principle was applied to the choice of sliding doors.

Together with the historical heritage, deep blue accents are in focus in this interior. The architects painted several walls, the inside of some open wardrobes, and part of the bathroom in deep blue. This technique helps make a minimalist arrangement expressive and engaging.

The completed interior was enhanced with large lamps, neutral sofas, chairs, and coffee tables. Of course, they didn't forget about the printed tiles on the floor in the hallway, similar to those used in local cafés. Apparently, no French interior can do without typical Parisian touches.
