Diversity of new materials has shaped a modern approach to decorating space based on the traditions of ancient painting. Hundreds of options for creating a special atmosphere
Artistic wall painting has its history dating back to ancient times. It was used as interior and exterior wall decoration in palaces and temples. Modern painting on raw plaster serves a decorative function in the interior of homes or apartments.
Characteristics of Frescoes on Kitchen Walls
A fresco on the kitchen wall can transform an unconventional space into the center of attraction for all household members. The universality of the size range allows decorating interiors of any area. Artistic painting serves not only as decoration but also performs several practical functions:
a light color palette and classical landscapes with a visible horizon line add "air" to the room, visually lifting the ceiling;
external finishing of the fresco on the kitchen wall allows visually highlighting the dining area;
the grainy texture of the canvas allows hiding defects in wall finishing.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Frescoes on Kitchen Walls
Artistic painting on walls has adorned luxurious estates and palaces since ancient times, emphasizing the high status of their owners. Over time, the art of frescoes evolved and became accessible to ordinary people. Modern technologies have simplified the production process of such decoration. Using frescoes on kitchen walls may seem unusual at first glance.
Frescoes on the wall of a kitchen have several undeniable advantages:
resistance to fading, moisture and dirt - high-quality lacquer paints reliably protect the canvas surface;
a long service life - proper execution of works during the initial stage guarantees preservation of the picture's appearance for a long time;
originality - modern technologies allow creating an image of any complexity, including transferring a photo to the wall.
Disadvantages of frescoes in the kitchen interior include:
careful handling and use - decoration on a felt base requires delicate operation due to its thin substrate;
high cost - painting made using classical techniques is labor-intensive and expensive.

Painting on Raw Plaster
The Italian word "fresco" translates as "raw," "fresh." The traditional method involves applying pigments to still wet plaster. Durability of the coating is ensured by calcium, which is abundant in lime. After drying, it forms a strong semi-transparent layer protecting the surface from external factors. The artist must paint the wall within one day without any possibility to make corrections.

Painting on Canvas
Creating an image on canvas requires time, painstaking effort and special professionalism from the artist. It is one of the most expensive options. Depending on the size, the work process may last several months. At the first stage, the drawing is aged using a special composition. Then it is transferred onto cotton canvas. After completion, the fresco is attached to the wall with regular adhesive. At the final stage, the canvas is coated with a protective layer.

A modern way to create a fresco on the wall using digital printing. It differs from previous methods in relatively low cost. The image is applied to synthetic film paste and sand. Installation of the decoration is done on a pre-prepared wall. There should be no irregularities or defects on the surface. It is not recommended to use it near the stove and sink. The fresco will quickly deteriorate.

On Felt Base
The ideal option for a kitchen in price-quality ratio. Such a fresco is not afraid of humidity and temperature fluctuations. It can hide wall finishing defects. Made on a felt base, the fresco is first covered with textured plaster. Then the canvas is glued to the wall like ordinary wallpaper. At the final stage, the master adds details to create a fresco effect on raw plaster.

Choosing a Fresco Design
The visual perception of the kitchen directly depends on the correct choice of fresco image. Development of technology and wide range of materials allow transferring reproductions of famous paintings, abstract patterns, landscapes, still lifes, and favorite photos onto the wall. Interior decoration should harmonize in style and color palette.

Choosing a Fresco in Combination with Kitchen Size
The area of the kitchen directly affects the subject and size of the fresco.
A design with light shades and spatial perspective visually "opens" walls and "lifts" the ceiling, for example, a panoramic view of a city or a landscape with a road leading to the horizon.
It is not recommended to use full-wall frescoes on small areas; medium and small forms of artistic painting should be preferred.
In a spacious kitchen, the flight of fantasy is limited only by the selected color palette and interior style.

Frescoes Depending on Kitchen Interior Style
Undeniable advantage of frescoes as a decorative element is the ability to select texture, size and subject matter of the image to match any style direction. Sophisticated painting and bold abstraction, juicy still life and floral ornament - hundreds of options for creating a special atmosphere.

Classical Style
A characteristic feature of classical kitchen interior is elegant monumentality and luxury of finishing materials.
Reproductions of paintings from the Renaissance era, scenes with mythological and ancient heroes fit perfectly into the surrounding environment.
Architectural and urban motifs of the fresco on the wall will fill the space with "air" and light. Framing the fresco will emphasize the geometry of lines and forms.

Hi-Tech
A bold style that does not tolerate standard solutions. The kitchen interior has a lot of metal, glossy surfaces, glass and chrome-finished furniture, but there is also room for frescoes. Dramatic strictness of three-dimensional computer graphics, stylish drawings, urban abstractions and provocative photographs will emphasize the minimalist nature of the style.

Cottage Style
Rural style on the kitchen attracts with a warm and cozy atmosphere. A fresco on the wall in such an interior is a harmonious continuation of the space. Simple subjects with landscape, lavender field or village street continue the pastoral theme of the room's decoration. Scenes from everyday life of ordinary people will add dynamism and inspire for preparing culinary masterpieces.

Ethnic Style
Original national motifs of the fresco on the wall can create an exotic atmosphere in the kitchen. Eastern themes will be supported by intricate lines and elegant flight of cranes and luxurious cherry blossom blooms. Rich colors of sketches from the lives of wild animals on the savanna and prairies will transport into a hot noon in African countries. Canonical paintings, majestic statues and pyramids will emphasize the distinctive interior of a kitchen in Egyptian style.
